They worked diligently to turn the winery shell into a house and built the second largest private lake in Napa County proper. For 25 years, it was the jewel of the Napa Valley, playing host to an array of international jet setters, artists, writers, intellectuals, Hollywood starlets and politicians. It was San Francisco columnist Herb Caen s favorite haunt in the Napa Valley and he wrote about Nell s gala, lakeside parties often. Over time, La Herradura was transformed into an award-winning vineyard and has recently been restored to its former glory.
