Supple, moving nicely over the tongue, an impression of phenolic, tasty with fresh notes. This is nicely complex and becomes ever-more intense. A little mineral, beautiful bright and focused notes, wide, tannic, a bright finishing growth of flavour and it holds strongly. Wide and silky, initially mineral but then slowly grows with fresh flavors - not overt puppy energy, but serious and almost intellectually challenging. Really fine clarity in the mid-palate flavours. Fabulously complex citrus notes in the finish. 5 Côte de Beaune - Premiers Crus - Domaine Santenay Beauregard 1er Cru 90 «Here the markedly sauvage and pungently earthy nose displays much darker fruit, in particular black cherry, along with hints of violet and sandalwood. There is a lovely sense of vibrancy to the detailed and sleekly muscular flavors that are presently youthfully austere yet there is fine finishing depth and length. This will need a minimum of 4 to 5 years of cellaring first but it should be worth the wait. Worth your consideration » Allen Meadows Burghound April 2016 Beaune Bastion 1er Cru «Wide, a little floral, with violets. Lithe, less structure, but still structured. Really lovely and wide mid-palate flavour. 6 Côte de Beaune - Premiers Crus - Domaine Beaune Clos Des Fèves 1er Cru, Monopole Flagship of the Domain 90- «A much more moderate application of wood frames the more elegant and cooler aromas of red berries, plum, exotic tea and sandalwood nuances. There is a really lovely sense of energy and underlying tension to the well-delineated and relatively fine middle weight flavors where the accompanying minerality is more evident, all wrapped on a very firm but not really austere finish. Worth a look if you have the patience to allow this age for at least 5 to 7 years » Allen Meadows - Burghound April Preview Wine Enthusiast 91 «A beam of marinated cherry steams ahead in this vibrant, silky red. Vanilla, olive, earth and tobacco accents add complexity, while the finish tightens up. A pleasant, stony inflection lingers. Best from 2017 through 2026.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator - November 15, 2015 Beaune Clos Des Marconnets 1er Cru «Very pure and generous aromas of cherries enhanced by well-shaped tannins. The wood treatment is a bit more subtle though it still would be hard to miss on the expressive nose that offers up almost pungently earthy aromas of various dark berries and violet scents. The nose is quite restrained but deep and smoky. The oak is quite present. A lot of breed. Aromas of black cherries mixed with black berries. On the palate the wine is quite taut. Crunchy with a beautiful fruit combination. The tannins are ripe on a well-shaped acidity. The wine is supple and displays again notes of red fruit mixed with spices. Slightly reduced aromas which are still quite closed, deep, complex, very mineral. This needs time. On the palate, the wine is sappy, very fresh, taut and precise, mineral on a solid structure. It is crunchy with a well-integrated oak note, juicy with a long finish. There is fine richness and mid-palate volume to the lightly stony middle weight flavors that offer fine length but not nearly the depth of the best in the range. There is excellent complexity to the delicious middle weight plus flavors that possess both good volume and an almost pungent minerality, all wrapped in a beautifully long and only mildly austere finale that avoids overt rusticity. On the palate, the wine is supple, refined, persistant. There is excellent concentration to the velvety and palate coating medium weight flavors that exhibit focused power and fine precision while terminating in an equally complex, driving and impressively lengthy finish. There is a beautiful sense of tension and delineation to the linear and driving mineral-inflected broad-shouldered flavors that display a seductive texture while delivering superb persistence on the balanced finish. Elegant and etheral wine with a long aftertaste.» La Revue du Vin de France N 602 June «This is the first wine to display any appreciable amount of reduction though even so it does not completely mask the evident floral character. There is an interesting contrast between an almost delicate mouth feel and the sauvage character of the mediumbodied flavors that culminate in a well-detailed, delicious, reasonably complex and well-balanced finish that displays excellent persistence. There is once again excellent richness to the relatively large-scaled flavors that possess plenty of palate coating dry extract, all wrapped in a stony and dry-in-the-best sense finale.
