Rego has worked in research on Plant Pathology for the past 25 years. The research activities were mainly directed towards decline of young grapevines and wood grapevine diseases, meeting an increasing demand from community for expertise on this subject. Research was focused on research on taxonomy of Ilyonectria/ Cylindrocarpon spp. infecting grapevines, genetic diversity of species, and development of rapid and sensitive methods for early detection of pathogens, disease epidemiology and control.
