The NEW Benchmark Fungicide for Grape Growers Grapes A GUIDE FOR GRAPE GROWERS

What is Pristine? Pristine is a NEW fungicide that combines two exclusive BASF active ingredients for superior, DUAL-ACTION control of the crop diseases that affect your production. This spraying season, why would you continue to use a fungicide that only does half the job? The innovation of BASF - the world s leading chemical company - brings together the new chemistry of boscalid and the proven performance of F500 (pyraclostrobin). These powerful ingredients combine to provide a tool designed to increase growers profits by delivering higher levels of disease control on more diseases in more crops than any fungicide available today. Successfully used by growers throughout the world Ten years of local development Now available in New Zealand

Benefits to the grape grower Pristine sets a NEW benchmark for control of the three main diseases that affect grape growers: botrytis, powdery mildew and downy mildew. Trial results in this country have proven Pristine to match the current market leading fungicide for botrytis control while exceeding any product currently available for the control of powdery mildew and downy mildew. With its broad-spectrum control, Pristine requires no tank-mixing, making it the easy-to-use fungicide choice. Complete with two precisely targeted modes of action, Pristine provides its own built-in resistance strategy. A new chemical group to the spray programme Dual action with built-in resistance management Requires no tank-mixing One-shot application Superbly rain-fast Effective control of botrytis, powdery mildew and downy mildew Safe to use in integrated growing systems Grape growers can now use Pristine for longer, stronger control of botrytis, powdery mildew and downy mildew.

How does Pristine work? Pristine protects the plant by inhibiting spore germination and growth prior to infection. This capacity to prevent the infection is highly critical in all crops where the finished quality of the fruit is of the utmost importance. The two unique active ingredients in Pristine work very differently. F500 (pyraclostrobin) is translaminar and locally systemic, providing fast-acting, longlasting disease control by blocking the energy production of the fungal cell at the Complex 3 enzyme in the respiration chain. Boscalid, however, is translaminar and acropetally systemic and inhibits the Complex 2 enzyme of the respiration chain. (See Figure 1: Respiration Chain). In this manner, boscalid not only stops energy production, but it also stops synthesis of amino acids and lipids that are critical for fungal growth. Because boscalid works on a different site of action than F500, the risk of cross-resistance to Pristine is minimal. This dual-function mode of action of Pristine provides growers with reliable, rapid, high performance disease control. Pristine provides its own built-in resistance management strategy. Figure 1: Respiration Chain

Directions for use Pristine can be used anywhere in the spray programme from 5% capfall right through to 28 days pre-harvest (dependant on local or export constraints). For optimum value and efficacy, Pristine should be applied at 5% capfall and again at 80% capfall at a rate of 150 g/100l water or 1.5 kg/ha. For use on grapes grown for the local market a 28 day pre harvest interval (PHI) must be observed. For grapes that are being grown for the export market, contact your exporter for final application timing of Pristine. Crop Disease Rate Comments Grapes Botrytis Powdery Mildew Downy Mildew 150 g/100l of water, applying no less than 1.5 kg/ha in a minimum of 500 litres water/ha Apply in protectant programmed from early flowering to pre-harvest as a preventive spray and when conditions favour disease Ensure bunch zone is adequately treated DO NOT apply more than 2 sprays per season DO NOT apply to hybrid varieties without testing If present at the time of application for botrytis, powdery mildew and downy mildew will also be controlled Mixing: Adjuvant: Compatibility: Withholding Periods: Rainfastness: Weather Watch: Volumetric Conversion: Water Rate: Approved Handler: Add the required amount directly into a partly filled spray tank with agitation operating Complete filling and maintain agitation until spraying is complete Not required Pristine may be tank mixed with most commonly used insecticides on grapes DO NOT apply within 28 days of harvest for local consumption. For export use it is recommended you check with the winery before application Rainfast once dried on the crop DO NOT apply if rain is likely to prevent the drying of Pristine 500 g = 900 ml 1000 g = 1800 ml Dilute to the point of runoff. For concentrated spraying, adjust rates accordingly Approved handler required plus record keeping of application The rates recommended are for high volume spraying to the point of runoff. For concentrate spraying, adjust rates accordingly. For concentrate spraying the rate of product applied must be equal to the rate that would be applied per hectare with dilute application.

Trial results in New Zealand Fact sheet Significant trial work in this country has proven Pristine will provide effective control of botrytis, powdery mildew and downy mildew in grapes. Pristine has been shown to be equivalent to the current market leader for the control of botrytis and superior to any product currently available for the control of powdery mildew and downy mildew. Pristine has also been proven to have no adverse effects on the size or quality of grapes.
