Today's event is the sixth consecutive Great Sherry Tasting, and I am delighted once again to be hosting the event on behalf of all 28 Sherry producers represented here today.

3 L E T T E R F R O M T H E P R E S I D E N T DEAR GUEST This past year has continued to provide good news for our Sherry business in the UK - with new Sherry bars continuing to pop up in metropolitan areas; premium sales of Sherry predicted to continue their rise and increasing a further 18% by 2021; and the rise in UK importers adding Sherry to their wine lists. Today's event is the sixth consecutive Great Sherry Tasting, and I am delighted once again to be hosting the event on behalf of all 28 Sherry producers represented here today. It is also our pleasure to welcome some of them to London, whom I hope you will get the chance to meet and talk to throughout your day. It is of particular pleasure to me to welcome so many guests to our masterclass programme. I think this is testiment to Sherry's enduring quality as the single-most versatile gastronomic wine in the world. Earlier in the summer, the Consejo in Jerez hosted the international final of Copa Jerez - which, if you have not yet come across, I urge you to visit our website ( to find out more about, or to attend our masterclass, 'Becoming a Sherry Sommelier', where guests will be introduced to the world of Copa Jerez by past finalists Andrea Bricarrello and Giovanni Ferlito - two of the most accomplished sommeliers in the UK. Many of the UK's leading wine writers are wonderful advocates of Sherry, so we are delighted to welcome one of them today to host our masterclass on Sherry & Cheese pairing; Susy Atkins, who is really looking forward to presenting the six wines paired with a selection of fine cheeses from acclaimed cheesemonger Paxton & Whitfield. Afterwards, I look forward to hosting the masterclass at the end of today about the 'Nation's Favourite Sherries', two styles of Sherry that gain the most attention: en rama and cream/medium Sherries - the latter of which are close to my heart and remain of most importance to our business in the United Kingdom. And, finally, there are many Official Sherry Educators attending the event today, so I invite you to take the opportunity to ask us all as many questions as you wish, to help you choose from nearly 200 Sherries available today. 5 Timetable & Masterclasses AM MAIN TASTING OPENS AM MASTERCLASS 1: BECOMING A SHERRY SOMMELIER Hosted by Andrea Bricarrello and Giovanni Ferlito Learning about Sherry is just the beginning of becoming a true Sherry sommelier. Guests attending this masterclass will taste six hand-picked Sherry wines chosen by two of the UK s leading sommeliers; learn the art of sharing Sherry knowledge with customers and staff; be taken on a culinary journey to understand how truly versatile Sherry is when pairing with food; and be welcomed into the world of Copa Jerez, the ultimate Sherry and food pairing competition PM SHERRY COCKTAILS Located in the main tasting gallery until 5.00pm Sherry s versatility in cocktails will be displayed with a selection of classic and new Sherry cocktails all recipes can be found on PM MASTERCLASS 2: SHERRY & CHEESE MATCHING Hosted by Susy Atkins Tasting Sherry often gives added dimensions of flavour, depth and aromas, but when those wines are tasted again with different cheeses, something magical happens. This masterclass will explore six different styles of Sherry paired with three different cheeses, from Paxton & Whitfield, to illustrate the dramatic and evolving flavour sensations of pairing Sherry with cheese PM MASTERCLASS 3: THE NATION'S FAVOURITE SHERRIES Hosted by Beltrán Domecq Two styles of Sherry dominate the headlines in the UK, and they couldn t be more different. Each has caught the attention of a demanding British public, but both have their own unique tales to tell. Guests to this masterclass will taste five of the best examples from both ranges, under the expert tutelage of the CRDO Jerez y Manzanilla president, Beltrán Domecq. Firstly, the latest addition to the Sherry family are en rama wines, most often younger styles of bonedry Fino and Manzanilla, released typically in Spring and Autumn each year when the flor is most active. And, then, the most well-known sweeter styles of medium dry, medium sweet and cream Sherry.
