3 WE EVALUATE AND HIGHLIGHT QUALITY SINCE 1961 Monde Selection, is an international and independent quality institute founded in Brussels, the capital of Europe. Thanks to our extensive experience in quality evaluation, the International Wine Contest of our institute benefits from a strong reputation. Every year, renowned and experienced wine professionals take great care to evaluate each product by following a rigorous methodology. The International Wine Contest is one of the few and the only Belgian wine competition that is granted the high patronage of the O.I.V, the Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin. The methods of tasting, calculation and granting of medals are the officially approved methods of the O.I.V. The International Wine Contest is acknowledged by the European Union and takes place under the supervision of the Federal Public Service Economy, Directorate-General for Economic Inspection of Belgium. 5 WHO PARTICIPATES? The participation at the Monde Selection s International Wine Contest is open to all wineproducers, dealers, wine-growers, distributors, exporters and importers. AN INTERNATIONAL JURY The Organising Committee of Monde Selection appoints the judges. All of them are eminent experts coming from all over Europe. They are selected according to their recognised proficiency as: Oenologists Sommeliers Columnists Wine experts Professors and lecturers Wine controllers The jury is chaired by Marc Khun and composed of renowned experts such as: Didier Allix, Olivier Bouché, Yves Chapier, Felix Christen, Valeriu Cotea, Joseph Gloden, Michael Grundhöfer, Peter Modos, Marie-Laurence Porte, Peter Sarkany,... All wine tasting sessions are blind and conducted according the OIV-UIOE (Union Internationale des Oenologues) tasting sheets presenting the following groups of parameters: Visual Nose Taste Harmony Overall judgement added values Boost sales It is proven that consumers prefer a labelled wine to another which does not bear a reliable guarantee. International comparison Our contest is a very effective way to position your wine on an international scale and to compare your quality level to the one of your competitors. External quality control Evaluate your product with international experts and give a new chance to your company to motivate its team and develop the quality of its products. 7 MEDALS A Monde Selection Medal is a direct evidence of the quality of your product. The calculation of the results is made according to the official procedure developed by the O.I.V. (Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin) and is updated every year accordingly. The sum of all the medals awarded to the samples must not exceed 30 % of the total of samples presented at the competition.
