1 TH ANNUAL GREAT LAKES REGIONAL MEETING July 2, 2016 M i c h i g a n h a d t h e h o n o r o f h o s t i n g t h e th A n n u a l G r e a t L a k e s R e g i o n a l C. A. R. M e e t i n g a n d t h e P r e - B o a r d s!!!! The Michigan State Children of the American Revolution would like to thank you for your generous contribution to the th Annual Great Lakes Regional Meeting Hospitality Room for our C.A.R. guests from around the county! Michigan had the honor of hosting the Pre-Boards for this event. That entailed our state hosting the C.A.R. National Board and National Committee Chairs five days prior to the actual Regionals as they completed their business and created skits for the upcoming year. Your donation included many different avenues to support this event. Monetary donations were combined to provide meals to our guests during the Pre-Boards. Some gave snacks, drinks, Goody Bag items, brought or loaned items for the Hospitality Room. Others donated their valuable time to plan for or work in the Hospitality Room. The Hospitality Room full of snacks (Breakfast Bars, Yogurt, Chips, Cookies, Fresh Fruit, Veggies & Dip, and Cheese & Crackers) and drinks (Bottled Water, Whole Milk, 2% Milk, Juice, Soda (Dr. Pepper, Sprite, and Pepsi & Coke Products & Coffee). All of these contributions helped make the Regional Meeting a success! As the host state, burlap Goody Bags were provided for all 140 registered guests. The M.S.C.A.R. ink stamped each bag after our C.A.R. State President s Kick-Off Meeting in April. Each bag had a donor recognition sheet (shown on the back on this newsletter), a small American Flag, 2 bags of Michigan made Better Made Potato Chips, a Michigan Chocolate, candy, a beautiful hand crafted note book, a DAR Pen, Freedom s Thunder Bracelets and Local Area Maps, Event Information & Brochures. We also provided small VIP Bags for the C.A.R. National Board that included bottled water, snacks and Freedom s Thunder Lip Balm!
2 P A G E 2 T H A N K Y OU!!!!! Sunday June 5, 2016 Pre Boards Our out of town guests began to arrive at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Laurie Huber, Mitch Huber and Deb Rakoczy were on hand to provide a homemade meal of lasagna, macaroni & cheese and salad. Following the early dinner, the kids immediately got to work. Due to traveling we all enjoyed an early bedtime. Monday June 6, 2016 Pre Boards Breakfast was served at 8am and the kids were all in meetings by 9am. Lunch was Build-Your-Own-Sandwich followed by a Pizza and Salad Dinner. The seniors and kids were happy to report that their working was progressing along nicely. Tuesday June 7, 2016 Pre Boards Waffles and sausage were made for breakfast. The kids reported that the skits were almost completed. They were all out of the Hospitality Room by 9am for more meetings and some of them actually started prop shopping. Danielle Taylor and Lisa Pietrzak joined in to help serve grilled cheese sandwiches and soup for lunch. Laurie Huber and Karen Woodworth handled Taco Tuesday for dinner. After dinner, the kids were busy with skit practice late into the night. Wednesday June 8, 2016 Pre Boards Our guests were treated to Tim Horton s Bagels and Donuts for breakfast. Apparently this was a wellreceived regional treat because Tim Horton s is not available everywhere around the country. The kids continued their prop shopping and began making costumes for all of the skits. For lunch hamburgers and brats were on the menu. The Hospitality Room received a much needed break for dinner as the C.A.R. Senior National President Joanne Zumbrum took all of the kids out to a private dinner. And again, the kids practiced their skits well past midnight.
3 JULY 2, PAGE Thur sday Ju n e 9, Pr e Boar ds Dawn Brady, Alicia Erion and Deb Rakoczy all put on their chef hats to serve scrambled eggs, cheese omelets and bacon for breakfast. Sandwiches were served for lunch. The kids were on track to finish their work, so they accepted a treat offered and provided by the local C.A.R. Society (Moses Clark), DAR Chapter (Sophie De Marsac Campau) and SAR Chapter (West Michigan) and they spent the afternoon at Dave & Busters. Dinner was out of this world! Danielle Taylor from the Sophie De Marsac Campau Chapter and Moses Clark Society brought in 3 crock pots of chili, corn bread and patriotic cupcakes! Everyone loved the dinner! Friday June 10, 2016 Regionals! Friday morning our chefs hats were on again as we used the little bit of the left over chili to create huevos rancheros for breakfast. Lunch was a smorgasbord or in other words - left overs. Registration for Regionals began at 4pm. Thankfully Chef Sean Brady, Ardis McLeod, Ellen Steward and Teresa Jones joined in the Hospitality Room help in the afternoon and evening. The Call to Order for the Opening Session was at 7pm. Followed by a Pool and Pizza Party at 10pm for the kids. The adults were treated to a Senior Reception in the Hospitality Room. Then the kids and seniors enjoyed snacks and drinks in the Hospitality Room until Midnight.
4 P A G E 4 T H A N K Y OU!!!!! Saturday June 11, 2016 Regionals Sean Brady was up bright and early serving French Toast for breakfast in the Hospitality Room! The Call to Order for the Meeting was at 9am. Great Lakes Regional VP, Callah McLeod, presided over the meeting. C.A.R. National President Connor Jackson detailed his National Project called Freedom s Thunder. Connor is raising funds for the creation of an enhanced outdoor interpretive program at the new American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. Together we will discover how Freedom s Thunder shaped our nation. The siege of Yorktown October 1781 shook the world, and finally and forever cast off the yoke of oppression for our new nation. We will partner with the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown in this 235th anniversary year of the Battle of Yorktown to create a hands-on educational curriculum based on the siege in their enhanced outdoor interpretive program, Artillery and Firing Station: Artillery education and demonstration for persons of all ages. Join me in making some noise to inspire, to awaken, and to remind people of the freedom that we cherish and refuse to take for granted. Connor and Callah At 11am the kids had their meeting and the seniors had a session with Senior National President Joanne Zumbrum. A field trip to the Frederik Meijer Gardens followed the morning session. The Banquet began at 6:30pm followed by a dance from 9:30pm until midnight. The kids were very happy when the adults were kicked out of the dance! So the seniors enjoyed an Adult Social in the Hospitality until 1am!
