5 Introduction Snack Art is both a recipe and a craft book. The central idea is to use food just as you would other craft material, then eat what you create. The recipes in this book: Use familiar, healthy foods that are easily obtained. Provide a fun way to try new foods. Include suggestions for food substitutes. Have easy-to-follow directions. There are a few things to keep in mind when using this book with children. For nearly all the recipes, you should allow children to assemble their own creations their final product does not have to be an exact copy of the book illustration. In addition, you may find that some children will want to use the foods to make something completely different than what appears on the page. It s fine to encourage creative ideas. Substitutions for recipe ingredients are also acceptable (see page 10 11). The most important thing to remember is that these are fun activities that can help you create some warm family or group memories. Teacher Created Materials, Inc. 5 #2318 Snack Art
