1 Lesson Plan Outburst, Jr. Goal To learn the contents and location of Gateway Vocabulary by engaging in a competitive play activity. Gateway 20 This activity is minimally applicable to Gateway 20. The game concept is appropriate for children targeted for this page set, however, the actual game cards offer limited opportunities for full participation. Gateway 40 This activity is appropriate for individuals learning to use Gateway 40. Gateway This activity is appropriate for individuals learning to use Gateway 60 and more complex grid sizes. Activity Description: Outburst, Jr. is a commercially available game that requires players to answer, typically using single words, and on a few occasions, multiple word utterances. Cards that have a significant portion of Gateway vocabulary re highlighted. Each card required 10 correct answers. Materials: Outburst, Jr. Game (Can be purchased at most toy stores) Modifications: This game can be modified in 2 ways. (1) The number of correct responses can be changed to a number lower than 10. Since many cards contain 4-5 words, a target of 4 or 5 can be set as the goal. (2) Cards can be modified to include additional Gateway vocabulary that relates to each card. In this scenario, the target would be 10 correct responses. The therapist or individual managing the game must work through the Gateway vocabulary to add targeted words each card. Of the two scenarios, the second one is recommended, since it can help a user learn more of Gateway s contents.
