1 Simmons Elementary Newsletter Kim Aman Principal September 2018 Welcome Back Welcome Back for the School Year. We are doing a sports theme this year and we are excited to start the year! Discipline Process We have developed a system which helps all students make good choices. The first step when a student makes a poor choice is a reminder or a conversation about their choice. The next step in the child filling out a Behavior Break. This form helps the student and staff process the choice and talk about how to make better choices in the future. If warranted, the next step is a Discipline Communicator. This slip communicates what choice the student made and what the consequence will be. The Behavior Break sheet and the Discipline Communicator both go home to families and have to be signed and returned. The Discipline Communicator is imputed into your child's file. Our Discipline process follows a continuum. Our number one goal in to help your child make good choices and reach their potential. Parking Thank you for not coming into the North parking lot. This is a staff parking lot and along with teachers, our students and Simmons Middle School kids walk through this lot. Every year we have close calls with staff and students almost being hit. Please choose safety over convenience and drop your students off in front of the school or on the South end by the playground. We appreciate you making the safety of our students and staff a priority! Upcoming Events Sept. 3 rd - Labor Day (no school) Sept. 12 th PTA Fundraiser Kick Off Sept. 14 th -Picture Day Sept. 26 th - PTA Fundraiser Due Oct. 5 th - No School- Staff Development Oct. 8 th - No School- Native American Day Oct. 12 th - Picture Retake Day Free and Reduced Lunch Applications Don t forget! All Free and Reduced Lunch Applications carry over from last year until October 3 rd. Please be sure to fill out a new application as soon as possible. Applications are available in the office.

2 Simmons Elementary Newsletter Kim Aman Principal September 2018 PTA Cookie Dough Fundraiser Save the Date Please join us to learn about the implementation of standardsbased grading at the Aberdeen School District Elementary Schools. 6:00 pm on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 Mike Miller Elementary School 5:00 pm on Thursday, October 4, 2018 Simmons Elementary School 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 4, 2018 Lincoln Elementary School Our students will be selling cookie dough from September 12 th -25 th. All proceeds are going toward new playground equipment. Thank you in advance for helping your child with this endeavor. Pick up day will be September 26 th right afterschool. Parents and family members are welcome to attend any event, regardless of the school their child attends. Standards-based grading is about what students learn, not what they earn. Susan Brookhart Picture Day is coming! September 14 th! More information will be sent home with your child soon. Meet the Eagles Aberdeen Central Schedules Meet the Eagles Events Join the fun at an upcoming Meet the Eagles meet and greet event for Golden Eagles fall and winter athletic teams. After the first scheduled home game/match of the season, Golden Eagle athletes meet and greet students, parents and community members. Fans of all ages will receive a team photo poster and meet the team members while getting their autographs. Meet the Eagles is a special project of the Aberdeen Public Schools Foundation.
