1 WHEN: February 22-23,2013 WHERE: Perry- Houston County Airport 350 Myrtle Field Road Perry, GA About Pigs and Wings: Pigs and Wings is a barbecue competition, which was started in 2008 by Danny Evans in support of the Georgia Barbecue Association with 14 teams attending. In 2011, The BBQ Times came on board to take part and handle the event for Evans as the event hosted 38 teams and was followed by 59 in As the event has grown in team participation, the need for the competition growth as a whole has accompanied. At the request of patrons attending the event, cook-teams and bbq enthusiast all over the state 2013 Pigs and Wings is planned to be better than ever! This year, the main meat categories featured will be : Pork Loin, Pulled Pork, Ribs, Brisket, and Chicken. There will also be a contest for Brunswick Stew, Margaritas, Bloody Mary, and Dessert. All categories are open for the public to enter, but to enter for Pork Loin, Pulled Pork and Ribs you must also obtain membership from the Georgia Barbecue Association. By doing so, you will also be a member of Georgia Barbecue Association and can be included in their events for the next year. We are offering a total prize payout of over $12,000 divided into categories! For more detailed payout information, please see the Payout Listing sheet. Also in 2013, Pigs and Wings will be opening up the doors to many types of vendors and sponsorships available for entertainment, stage signage, catagories and much much more. Cook-teams and Vendors are welcome to come in on Thursday evening February 21, 2013 to set up. There will be live entertainment on Friday evening and we are hoping to add some in on Saturday for event attendees to enjoy along with some great barbecue and creative vendors. This is a family event, open to the public to attend. We will have t-shirts at the event available for purchase for $15. You can place an order now, or buy one at the event while supplies last. The event will continue on through Friday evening as the cook-teams prepare for the big day on Saturday. Turn-In s for Brunswick Stew, Dessert, and Margarita will be on Friday evening and are all welcome for the public to compete, for more information on this please pigsandwingsinfo@yahoo.com. Saturday Turn-In s will begin around 9AM with the Bloody Mary contest followed by Brisket and Chicken later in the day. Pork Loin, Ribs, and Pulled Pork will also be judged Saturday through a preliminary and finals round sanctioned by Georgia Barbecue Association. This event is currently planned to conclude on Saturday evening following the awards ceremony. YOU MUST COOK GBA CATEGORIES AS WELL AS BRISKET AND CHICKEN TO BE ELGIBLE FOR OVERALL CHAMPION. This cash award is based upon 10 applicants. These categories will be guaranteed a 75% PAYOUT! Brunswick Stew, Margarita, Dessert and Bloody Mary will consist of an appearance score and will be allowed any type of garnish or decoration that team deems appropriate. BRISKET AND CHICKEN WILL NOT ALLOW ANY TYPE OF GARNISH OR DECORATION. THESE BOXES WILL BE KEPT IN SEQUENCE WITH THE OTHER MEAT CATEGORIES AND WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IF THERE IS ANYTHING OTHER THAN MEAT IN THE BOX. One Member of each time is required to attend the cook s meeting on Friday afternoon. We highly recommend that you have a minimum of two people in attendance and if possible the entire team. This will be the first contest of the year and is always helpful for teams to keep from having mistakes resulting in disqualification. Teams may set up starting noon. If you plan to arrive earlier or after 6PM please let us know no later than 5 PM to make sure we have someone there. Teams are more than welcome to stay Saturday night as well.
