2 WHISKY SINGLE MALT spirits Some may prefer Whisky (distilled in Scotland) or Whiskey (Distilled in Ireland and America). We enjoy them all. The Single Malts mostly associatedwith Scotland, although can be produced in other countries. Under the Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009, it must be made from purely malted barley, distilled using a pot still and aged for at least three years in oak casks of a capacity not exceeding 700 litres. 4 COGNAC CAPE BRANDY Cognac named after the town of Cognac in France is a variety of brandy. It is produced in the wine growing region surrounding the town from which it takes its name. As in Champagne, only these brandies from Cognac are able to carry the name. In South Africa it is known as Brandy and is enjoyed in many different ways. Although there are many stories of where the name Rum originated and the form it took, it was only in the 17th Century that the first distillation of rum took place in the sugarcane fields of the Caribbean. 6 LIQUEURS An alcoholic beverage that has been flavoured with fruit, herbs, nuts, spices, flowers or crème and bottled with added sugar. Typically sweet and therefore the most distinct difference between Spirits and Liqueurs is that of the added sugar to Liqueurs.
