Highland Whiskies The MacAllan Amber NZ Double (30ml) $19 This amber spirit is polite, almost apologetic at first, with a floral, citrus sweet nose that gains presence, commanding a chorus of sweet vanilla notes over freshly harvested grain. Raisin, sultana and cinnamon look on as toffee apples and candy floss step into the limelight. On the palate fresh green apples and lemons mingle with cinnamon. Ginger notes hover as fruit takes over, with subtle oak lingering in the wings. The finale is light to medium, with soft fruits and cereal, slightly dry. The Dalmore 12-Year-Old NZ Double (30ml) $14 Dalmore 12 is aged for the first nine years in American white oak ex-bourbon casks, before half is transferred to ex-oloroso sherry casks for the final three years. The result is a whisky with a combination of sweetness and rich sherried flavours, a toasty, coffee-rich dram with beautiful spicy notes and a thick mouthfeel. Very rich for a 12-year-old.

2 Glenmorangie The Original 10-Year-Old NZ Double (30ml) $14 Flavours of honeyed sweetness fused with notes of citrus, vanilla and almonds, makes this a delicate, alluring and very complex whisky. On the nose the scent of citrus and ripening peaches is softened by the aroma of vanilla. First, vanilla is detected on the tongue before it ripples along the palate bringing a burst of flowery fruitiness. About a minute after tasting, you are left with a clean and salving aftertaste with hints of orange and peach. The Glenlivet Founder s Reserve NZ Double (30ml) $11 Very clean and fresh on the nose, with notes of grass, freshly cut apples and pear drops, enriched by a rich toffee character. Slight floral note, with menthol and custard-tart notes. The gentle fruitiness continues on to the palate, with pear the dominant note, accompanied by a refreshing mintiness. Very soft texture and mouthfeel with no rough edges. Easy to drink. The finish is soft, fruity and whistle-clean.

3 Glenfiddich 12-Year-Old NZ Double (30ml) $11 This pioneer single malt is matured in the finest Oloroso Sherry and Bourbon casks, then uniquely married in oak tuns for a beautifully balanced nose, and refreshingly complex flavour. The nose is distinctively fresh and fruity with a hint of pear. On the palate characteristic sweet, fruity notes at first developing into butterscotch, cream, malt and subtle oak flavours. A long smooth mellow finish. Speyside Whiskies Balvenie 12-Year-Old Doublewood NZ Double (30ml) $18 A luxurious malt with a honey/orange nose, honey sweetness that gives way to spicy notes. The Balvenie Doublewood acquires its complex yet rich and smooth taste from its maturation in two different types of oak cask.

4 Glen Grant 10 year old NZ Double (30ml) $14 Vanilla, toffee apple with a hint of smoke on the nose. On the palate firm, sweet and fruity with vanilla, gentle peat and malty tones. Dry supple peat and toffee finish. Monkey Shoulder NZ Double (30ml) $17 Blended in small batches of three Speyside single malts, then married to achieve a smooth rich taste. On the nose zesty orange meets mellow vanilla, honey and spiced oak. On the palate vanilla with hints of spice. A super smooth finish. Many whisky connoisseurs rate this blend more highly than some of the finest Speyside single malts.

5 The Island Whiskies The Arran 10 Year Old Malt NZ Double (30ml) $17 This warm golden whisky smells of fresh herbs, biscuits, malt, grass, and lemon zest. This whisky is adored for its notes of Walker s shortbread, orange and lemon zest, green apple, turbinado sugar, and marzipan on the palate. Finish is medium length with citron and malt. Laphroaig 10 Year Old Malt NZ Double (30ml) $15 Laphroaig 10 is one of the cornerstones of any Scotch whisky library and a name that many will be familiar with. Hailing from Islay, it has all the characteristics you expect peat, smoke, and spice. It smells like a campfire, there s no mistaking it. Enjoy one sidled up to the logburner in our cosy bar!
