9 Unfortunately, even though rainforests are incredible they are being chopped down. There is a special science word for this called deforestation. There are lots of different reasons why the rainforest is being chopped down:- it is mostly destroyed for people to make money. Companies clear the land for farming up to 80% of the Amazon rainforest has been deforested for cattle ranching (cows which are sold to make beef.) A football pitch every 11 seconds is chopped down to grow a crop called palm oil this is found in a lot of things in the supermarket.
