2 the question compare the economic, political, and social conditions in great britain and in france during the eighteenth century, showing why they favored the industrial revolution in great britain more so than in france.
3 What is it all about? The question is asking to demonstrate how Great Britain favored the industrial revolution more than France and to compare both countries economic, political, and social conditions during the 18th century. To answer this question one must find evidence showing that Great Britain favored the industrial revolution more and analyze each country s condition and then compare them.
4 how to solve this question 1. read and re-write the question in your own words to better understand what information you need to answer the question correctly. 2. Go through all the evidence and identify what information that is useful in your response. collect eight solid pieces of evidence to use in your response. 3. connect all the pieces of evidence back to the question. 4. write a timeline in correlation to the event in your question. 5. with all the evidence you collected, create three main ideas to answer your question. they will later act as your body paragraph. 6. using the three main ideas create a thesis statement that includes all your points.
5 thesis statement the industrial revolution thrived in great britain in comparison to france, britain had the advantages of a strong and unified government, an advance in technology, and a geographical location that allowed it to be away from the turmoil happening in the continental countries in europe at the time.
6 timeline 1700: enclosure movement in england began, increasing agricultural production s;textile inventions such as john kay s flying shuttle proved to be innovative and efficient for producing goods. 1789: the french revolution begins 1804: the revolution ended, napoleon rises to power 1807:textile production in great britain was sent to other countries in need of these good, since the embargo of slave trade 1815: napoleon s reign ended, after his final defeat at waterloo after a failed attempt to isolate great britain. 1825: the successful stockton and darlington railroads opened in great britain 1830: france and other european countries began steadily growing their industry 1832:french railroads also opened how ever serious construction for these tracks started later 1851: both britain and france s population increased from the 1830 to 1851
7 Great Britain s strong and unified government topic sentence: while france was trying to gain independence from a tyrant king and recovering from their beloved emperor s fall, great britain was focused on advancing to a modern nation which was easy because their country was fairly stable at the time. french revolution and the napoleonic wars left france in turmoil, thus their atlantic trade and their economy. in wars around the world increased, thus these countries ( including france) demanded britain s high quality and low price goods. britain s textile industry also flourished and countries like the united states invested in these goods. unlike france, britain had a central banking system and a central banking system and a well developed credit market. the british economy ran smoothly and efficiently with few restrictions, major technological change, and a free market.
8 Great Britain s advance in technology over france topic sentence: having a well put together country helped Britain advance in technology quicker than france who was behind, like most other countries, on what the industrial revolution was supported by, which was new machines and people to invent them France was mostly a country of peasants during the Industrial Revolution. These people were not well educated and did not contribute to their country as the merchants and artisans did in Great Britain. Not many held a job in office and after France s revolution it took them a while to put together a strong unified government while Great Britain already had one working for a while. France also was behind on the Industrial Revolution due to Britain s Agricultural Revolution which led Britain to produce farm machinery and since it was not necessary for people to work the land anymore many moved to towns and worked in factories. France never had an Agricultural Revolution and was not able to jump ahead in the whole factory movement.
9 Great Britain s advance in technology over france continued great britain was the leader in railroads producing approximately three times more kilometers of railway than france. railroads was a cheaper and efficient passage for raw materials. this improvement in the rise in population, which increased the labor force.
10 Great Britain s upper hand in geographical awesomeness topic sentence: great britain lucked out by being an island and they owned plenty of land around the world while france was dead center of a continent engulfed in war. Britain s colonies played a very important role for them in the Industrial Revolution. The land that they had conquered provided them with many natural resources that they used and traded all around the world. France did not possessed as much land and did not have much to work with. One of Britain s advantages was it is an island. It allowed it to stay away from on going wars around Europe and focus on expanding their economy and creating a more powerful country. Being an island with navigable inland rivers and having a well developed system of canals allowed for Britain to build a superior merchant marine for transporting its goods.
