2 PREHISTORY IT IS THE TIME BEFORE THE INVENTION OF WRITING. Since this, there aren t written record of what life was like during this era. So that, archaeologists have been studying types of tools, objects and remains they find excavations. Hunters and gatherers (The first hominids) Farmers - They formed FAMILY TRIBES. - They lived in caves or outside in the open. - They were NOMADS (When food was scarce in one place, they moved on search of more food). - They hunted animals together and gathered fruit. - They MAKE FIRE to cook food and get warmth and protection. - They made STONE TOOLS. - They used them to cut, hunt and to fish. - They became crop and animal farmers. - They became SEDENTARY (They lived together in LARGE GROUPS). - They don t live in caves. - They built VILLAGES near their crops. - They made stronger METAL TOOLS. - They used them to work the land and build their houses.

3 ANCIENT TIMES The invention of WRITING marked the start of this era. Ancient Times is the first era of history. The first civilisations EGYPT GREECE ROME - EGYPTIANS built great PYRAMIDS for their PHARAOHS. - They arose near the NILE RIVER. - They navigated in PAPYRUS BOATS. - They wrote HIEROGLYPHICS (It was a picture-based system). - GREEKS lived near the MEDITERRANEAN SEA. - They used SHIPS to travel and they founded COLONIES. - They left us to work of art with their gods called MYTHS and even the OLYMPICS. - They introduced DEMOCRACY in their cities. - ROMANS flourished in the area around the MEDITERRANEAN SEA. - They lived in our territories for many years. - They built THEATRES, and TEMPLES for their gods and goddesses. - They built HOUSES with many floors. - They invented COINS USED IN SHOPS. - They built very good roads.

4 THE MIDDLE AGES It started with the fall of the ROMAN EMPIRE (476) CRISTIAN KINGDOMS MUSLIM KINGDOMS 3. CHRISTIANITY became the main religion. Every village had a CHURCH. Some cities has bigger churches called CATHEDRALS. 1. They spoke ARABIC. 2. Muslims governors lived in ALCAZARS. 1. PEASANTS worked the land.agriculture was very important. 2. It were ruled by a KING or QUEEN who lived in a CASTLE with the KNIGHTS who helped and protected him. 4. MUSLIMS celebrated Islam in great temples called MOSQUES. 3. Their cities had many CULTURAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES.

5 THE MODERN AGE - This era began with the discovery of AMERICA in Cities grew and SCHOOLS and UNIVERSITIES opened. - The PRINTING PRESS was an important inventions in this period. Cristóbal Colón left Spain to go around the world in search of alternative trade routes. He travelled for many months across the Atlantic Ocean until the discovered an unknown land: AMÉRICA He found different CULTURES and new FOODS there, like potatoes and chocolate. People there learnt Spanish.

6 CONTEMPORARY TIMES Nowadays, this is the era where we live. It started with the French revolution in It is an era of great TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES as the first factories and faster means of transport and communication have appeared. Thanks to the technological advances, we can communicate more easily with many more people around the world and learn about other cultures.

7 TIMELINE There haven t always been cars, phones, mobiles or computer in your locality. It has changed a lot over the centuries. 5. CONTEMPORARY TIMES 1. PREHISTORY People live in caves near water. They discover the fire. 2. ANCIENT TIMES Writing was invented and commerce was developed. 3. THE MIDDLE AGES Walls and castles were built to defend the cities. Localities had a marketplace and a church. 4. THE MODERN AGE Cities grew because of commerce. Universities, palaces and ports were built. Means of transport and communication are very fast. Cities has skyscrapers.
