2 Message from the Chair If you can t believe it s June and summer is here then you just have to come down and sit by our pond at the Club for lunch or at the end of the day or anytime...the birds are chirping, the sun is shining.it is definitely summer! Our pond reclamation project is definitely underway. Many of the naughty blackberry bushes that have been encroaching on our vegetation have been removed and pots and planters have been added on the patio for a bit of colour. This landscaping activity will continue over the next short while as we give the pond a refresh and the water a better chance to breathe. Remember our Friday BBQ s at lunch and dinner. If you like music then make certain you join us for the Hard Days Night Club on Friday evenings. We have several great entertainers joining us in June beginning with the Sutcliffe s on June 6 th for our SPECIAL FEATURE LOBSTER FEST to start the month with Eight Days a Week and Yesterday. See the flyer in the newsletter for more information including dates, times and future performers. Remember, don t wait for a special Event to stop by. He s performed as a s ideman with award winning bands that play jazz, folk, pop, latin, celtic, klezmer, classical, ska, and more. Nick will be joined by pianist Ashley Wey, and drummer Matt Pease. 7 FRIDAY JUNE 20TH FEATURING The Moonshiners THE MOONSHINERS Known for their powerful three part harmonies, danceable grooves and wild instrumental excursions. The Moonshiners are an Urban West Coast take on Bluegrass, Folk, Early Country and Blues. Based in Victoria, BC the band is comprised of some of Vancouver Islands best acoustic musicians: Tad Ruszel (Guitar, vocals), Chris Herbst (Dobro, vocals), and a rotating cast of some of Victoria s finest bluegrass players. 8 FRIDAY JUNE 27TH FEATURING MEN S NIGHT with THE BLACK ANGUS BAND Black Angus is an innovative acoustic band that is all about Gareth Hurwood and the music he has developed in his repertoire over many years. Gareth is best known as the leader, singer and multi-instrumentalist with West Coast Celtic group, Kitangus. His talent, humour and experience provide a fresh approach to the folk genre, specializing in music from Ireland, UK, Canada and United States, along with original compositions in the traditional style. Black Angus' show has a high energy level and great stage presence that is instantly communicated to their audience. The band is devoted to great songs, which combined with their own sheer enjoyment of the music, fuels their powerful performance.
