29 Homemade Chocolate Ice Cream Ingredients ounce chocolate bar 1 can sweetened condensed milk 2 cups heavy cream Directions Break the chocolate bar into chunks and place in a microwave-safe glass bowl. Microwave the chocolate, stopping and stirring every 30 seconds, until melted and smooth. Stir condensed milk into the chocolate. Set aside. Place the heavy cream in a large bowl and use an electric hand mixer to whip it until stiff peaks form. Fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until completely incorporated. Scrape mixture into an airtight container and cover. Freeze for at least 2 hours before serving. To make vanilla ice cream, omit chocolate, add 2/3 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
30 Homemade Strawberry Ice Cream Ingredients 1 pound strawberries or peaches 2 cups heavy cream 1 cup whole milk 2/3 cup sugar Directions Wash and trim the strawberries, then cut into 1/4-inch slices. Place half of the sliced strawberries in a food processor or blender and puree. Set aside both sliced and pureed strawberries. Combine cream, milk, and sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and pour mixture into a large bowl. Add the strawberry puree and mix well. Cover with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator until completely cool. While the cream mixture is chilling, dice the remaining sliced strawberries into smaller pieces to mix into the ice cream. Pour the cooled cream mixture into an ice cream maker and process according to the manufacturer's instructions. Towards the end of the process, stir in the diced strawberries. Transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 2 more hours before serving.
31 Additional Ideas 1. Use the App Pic Collage to create a poster for your ice cream shop. Make sure to put important information about your shop. 2. Use the app SnapGuide to write the steps in making ice cream. You can make ice cream with the class. Take photos as you make it. Students can then use SnapGuide to write the directions and add the photos. 3. Use ipads to produce a cooking demonstration video. Students can work in groups to create a video of How to Make an Ice Cream Sundae. Students must include a creative introduction and closing to their video. 4. Invite parents or other classes for a tasting of student created ice cream flavors. Make or purchase a basic vanilla ice cream. Students can bring items for their ice cream from home or you can provide lots of different selections. Use little sample cups so students can share their new flavors. People can even vote on the best flavor. The winner can win a gift card to the local ice cream shop. 5. Use the menu I provided for students to write their own word problems and solve..
32 How to Make Ice Cream Write instructions on how to make ice cream. Make sure to write a good introduction and closing.
