He actually went to work in early December 12 to the delight of his dedicated workers and lucky customers who saw him pour his last shot. Though the legend cannot be replaced, his legacy continues with the appreciation and adoration of his family, friends and customers who have come for over 5 decades. Now, the 3rd generation is in place to carry on the family tradition. Manuel said that it is the people that make El Tepeyac, both in the loyal customers who have come for decades and the dedicated employees inclding several that have worked at the restaurant for up to 45 years. With two restaurants now, in Boyle Heights and the City of Industry, we are dedicated to continue in his tradition of generosity, friendliness and the great food that people have grown to love and love again. The Story of El Tepeyac An Aztec Indian named Juan Diego went to pray on a hilltop called El Monte de El Tepeyac or some say the mountain of pity and it was there where he had a vision of the Blessed Mother who became known as the Virgen de Guadalupe. As she forgave him for the sins he had committed, her image remained on his serape and as he returned to town, many people saw this image as a miracle. Many scientific tests have been done and as this remains a mystery, the story has been acknowledged by the Catholic Church by most recently naming Juan Diego a Saint for the miracle he witnessed. Salvador Rojas, Manuel s father and founder of the restaurant, chose his restaurant to be on a hill in honor of this miracle and his devote faith to the Virgin.
