1 GENERAL AGREEMENT ON TARIFFS AND TRADE RESTRICTED COM.TD/W/71 26 October 1967 Limited Distribution Committee on Trade and Development Tenth Session Original: English/French ADVANCE IMPLEMNTATION OF KENNEDY ROUND TARIFF REDUCTIONS Notification by Contracting Parties 1. At its ninth session held on July 1967, the Committee on Trade and Development discussed the question of advanced implementation of the reductions negotiated in the Kennedy Round on products of interest to developing countries and agreed to invite each of the developed contracting parties to make its best endeavours to submit by 15 October a list of products on which it proposed to take such action (COM.TD/47, paragraph 4). 2. Responses to this invitation have so far been received from the Governments of Denmark, Finland, Switzerland and the United States. These are reproduced on the following pages. 3. In addition the Canadian delegation has advised that a Governmental statement will be made in Parliament in the latter part of October concerning implementation of all Kennedy Round reductions, and that the Canadian delegation will then be able to advise the Committee on Trade and Development about implementation of reductions of particular interest to developing countries.

2 Page 2 DENMARK The items on which Denmark has taken action in this regard have been signified by an asterisk in the final schedule (Schedule XXII) annexed to the Geneva Protocol of 3 June are marked with two asterisks. 7 Page 7 SWITZERLAND The following are the tariff headings in the list of concessions (marked by an * in Schedule LIX) granted by Switzerland for which full implementation on 1 January 1968 has been agreed in the Kennedy Round. It Will nct, however, be possible to place the results of the Kennedy Round before the Swiss Parliament for approval before the month of December, and the attached list is therefore, not as a matter of law, definitive. 11 Page 11 UNITED STATES The following are the items on which the United States plans to make full implementation of Kennedy Round concessions, without staging, on 1 January These represent the maximum of Kennedy Round concessions for non-staged duty eliminations on products of interest to developing countries allowed by United States legislative authority. All of the concessions are duty eliminations. United States imports of these items during 1965 amounted to $61.4 million.
