2 Direct from the fruit and vegetable growers Who is The fresh food supplier from Northern Germany Godeland was founded in January The producer organisations Landgard, Veiling Hamburg and Godeland merged with trading firms Reimer Hauschildt GmbH and R. Beckmann GmbH, forming the new company of Godeland to market regional fruit and vegetable varieties across the country. Their aim was to exploit climatic and regional conditions efficiently. They regard their common challenge as not only achieving further increases in product quality, but also environmentally friendly production. For bulk buyers at home and abroad Godeland is a reliable partner. Germany s retailers are supplied through Godeland logistics centres. From the producers fields customers throughout Europe are supplied directly with topquality fruit and vegetables. 3 Fruit and fresh vegetables from Godeland are grown in six main regions. The traditional North German growing regions On the fresh marshy soils by the North Sea crisp carrots and bunched carrots grow as well as numerous cabbage varieties. Fine crops of white and red cabbage, kohlrabi and swedes are produced in Dithmarschen. Marsh toes are also a popular speciality. pota- From the end of May until late autumn delicious flower and broccoli are harvested near Glückstadt in the cauli- Elbe marshlands. Other premium products from here include celery, Chinese cabbage, cabbage and sprouts. In Hamburg s market garden, the Vierlande and lande, aromatic tomatoes, rhubarb, zucchini and selected Marsch- lettuces are painstakingly cultivated as are varieties of herbs. In the Nordheide near Buchholz the familiar iceberg ce grows alongside a full range of vegetables. Leeks de- lettuvelop their spicy flavour especially well on the loose soils near Lüneburg. Asparagus, kale, legumes and beetroots thrive here. Every season apples, pears and cherries are produced in the Altes Land, which is especially beautiful when the trees are blossoming. With this number the vegetable s route can be retraced back to the field. Harvest prognosis Not even Godeland can influence the weather. But Godeland is able to say what effect it has on the harvest. Extensive analyses provide an opportunity to forecast harvest yields early on, which means customers can respond to what is available.
