NIR Grading
NIR Grading Minimum Dry Matter Requirement The Minimum Dry Matter Requirement for NIR Graded Fruit is 0.2% Higher than the Orchard Sample Spec. Threshold For Kiwifruit NIR graded within three days of harvest: o Gold3 Kiwistart dry matter threshold of 17.1% dry matter for each count size (70% of fruit must be above this threshold) o Gold3 Modified Kiwistart dry matter threshold of 16.6% dry matter for each count size (70% of fruit must be above this threshold) o Gold3 Mainpack dry matter threshold of 16.3% dry matter for each count size (70% of fruit must be above this threshold)
NIR Grading Process All Fruit Passes Under NIR Heads & D.M. Measured Pass ( MTS): Fruit Packed into Tray 90 Fruit Sample D.M. Tested to Verify it Meets the Standard Fail (<MTS): Fruit Removed from Inventory Pass ( MTS): Fruit Submitted into Inventory Fail (<MTS): A further 90 fruit DM Test conducted Pass ( MTS): Fruit Submitted into Inventory Zespri Audit: 7% of Packed Product Fail (<MTS): Fruit allocated to Reject Bin
Zespri Audit Process (7% of Packed Product) 90 Fruit DM Audit from Pallet of Packed Fruit Pass: No Further Action Fail: A further 90 fruit DM Audit conducted from packed Fruit Pass: No Further Action Fail: All NIR Fruit for Size Audited to be Removed from Inventory
Zespri Audit Process (Rolling 5 Scoring System) 7% base sampling rate of MA/sizes Each audit achieves a Pass, Marginal or Fail + corresponding weighting. Fail audit results get confirmed through a 2nd audit sample Marginal treated as a pass for inventory Audit classification (based on Mainpack DM Threshold requirement):
Zespri Audit Process (NIR Grading Hold System) Rolling 5 tally of audit results based on last 5 audit results. Base sampling rate of 7% increasing to 14% based on the rolling tally score. Once a NIR grading hold is issued (Rolling 5 Score >6), all NIR graded fruit in inventory may be placed on export hold and Hold can only be lifted by a Zespri representative. Grading hold is only lifted once Zespri is satisfied that appropriate corrective actions have been taken and the supplying facility is able to deliver fruit that meets the minimum dry matter.
