1 Passover 2018 (for SEPHARDIC only) IMPORTANT: All products in this list have to be Kosher for the yearlong and have to be bought before Pessah. During Pessah, all products that are bought have to have Kosher for Pessah label. Alcohol: Isopopyl and rubbing alcohol are allowed. Almonds: Natural or dry are allowed. Almond milk: Almond Breeze, Whole Foods, Organic Almond milk, unsweetened Vanilla. Aluminum: Aluminum in sheets, rolls, plates and baking tins are allowed. Apple juice: Needs to have Kosher for Pessah symbol. Baby Cereals: They are all Hamets because they contain one of the five forbidden grains. According to the Rabbi in charge of OU, one should not use Beech Nut Pure Rice either. Baby food: First Choice : Applesauce, Carrots, Pears, Sweet Potatoes, has a OUp symbol. Gerber : Carrots, Squash, Green Beans, Peas, with OU. Baby formula: Regular similac and Lactose free, Isomile, Prosobee, Enfamile are allowed. Baking Soda: All brands are allowed. It is preferred to open a new box for Pessah. Bird food: One cannot feed birds with forbidden cereal during Pessah. However, one could feed the birds with sunflower seeds, millet seeds or any other kosher for Pessah seeds. Another option is to have a non-jew keep the birds for the duration of Pessah. Brown sugar: Has to be Kosher for Pessah.
2 Canned vegetables: All the brands Kosher during the year are Kosher on Pessah for Sephardics. Unless the ingredients lists added spices. Salt, Sodium Chloride and Citric Acid are not Hamets for Sepharads. Look well that the ingredients do not mention any of the 5 cereals. Carbonated Water: Perrier only with Kp Kashrut. All others only with Kosher for Pessah label. Cheese : Cream cheese et Feta cheese with a regular Kosher symbol. Cigarettes- Cigars: All brands are allowed. Cigars with Cognac are not Kosher all year round. Coffee: Ground and with no flavors and whole natural coffee beans with no additives are allowed. The brands of instant coffee Folgers, Taster s Choice and Maxell House that have the OU during the year are allowed (this does not apply to the decaf or aromatized coffee). Cocoa powder: Hershey s ok. Not the Special Dark Cooking paper : All brands are allowed. Cosmetics: All cosmetic products for women are allowed. Dates: Natural dates do not need hashgaha all year round. However, one should be careful with glazed dates (sugar coating) as they are never Kosher. Dental floss: All brands with no wax are allowed. Deodorants: All brands are allowed. Detergent and cleaning products: All brands are allowed. Dog and cat food: To feed dogs and cats during Pessah one can use fresh meat, matsa and all kosher for Pessah food. For dry or canned food, one has to verify the ingredients that there is no mention of the 5 forbidden cereals and also that there is not meat/milk mixture (which is forbidden the yearlong).
3 Dry fruit: Need to be kosher for Pessah (no exceptions). Eggs: It is custom to buy eggs before Pessah and to rinse them. Fennel: Fennel is a vegetable that is nor Hamets nor Kitniyot so it is allowed for Pessah. Fish: If bought from a not kosher place, make sure the fish is Kosher (check that the skin has scales and fins), and rinse before. Fish food: Read the ingredients to make sure that there is no cereal mixture. You can always feed your fish with matsa. Fruits and vegetables: Allowed (in their natural form). Frozen vegetables, all brands with regular kosher symbol. Read ingredients to make sure there is no flour mixt. If in cans, with no spices ok. Read ingredients to make sure there are no cereals or flour added. Garlic: Allowed. Ground fish: Has to be bought from a Kosher place only. Honey: Allowed if in a new container, without aromas and that have a kosher sign the yearlong (brands like Doyon, Billy Bee). Lemon juice: Allowed if 100% pure. Leguminous in bags (Kitniyot): Closed bags and dry only are allowed. They have to be bought before Pessah and they have to be checked three times that they do not contain by accident any of the 5 cereals. Lettuce: Allowed during Pessah. Remember to wash thoroughly to get rid of any possible insects. Mushroms: Fresh ok, if in cans must have any Kosher symbol. Check ingredients- water, salt, citric acid. Meat, fish, chicken (raw): If you have leftovers in your fridge or freezer, you can wash it and use it for Pessah.
4 Medications: The general rule is that all pills that are swallowed are allowed without Kosher for Pessah label. Those that dissolve in the mouth or those that are flavored like syrups or chewable vitamins need a kosher for Pessah label. All eye and eardrops, suppositories, and creams for application on the skin (besides mouth region) are allowed. Milk: All brands with Kosher symbol. If needed, only the Kosher for Pessah brands can be purchased during the mid-holiday. Chocolat milk Kosher for Pessah only. Mouthwash: Listerine and Scoop are allowed. Mushrooms: Fresh mushrooms are allowed. Canned mushrooms require Kosher for Pessah symbol. Nutella : Ok. (Not Halav Israël) Nuts: Pecans, Filbert nuts, Almonds etc. are allowed when they are fresh and natural. Oil: Needs to have a Kosher symbol the whole year long avoid oil made from corn. Olive oil: Virgin olive oil with a Kosher symbol the whole year long. Perfumes: All perfumes are allowed. Plastics and foam: All are allowed. Play dough: Play dough is Hamets. Quinoa: Has to be bought before Pessah and checked for any mix of grain or cereal. Salt: Pure salt only without Dextrose. Pink salt without additives. Sea salt. Shampoo: All brands, without oats are allowed
5 Smoked Salmon: with O.U only. Soap: All brands without oats are allowed. Soft drinks: Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite, Diet Sprite, Sprite Zero, Cherry Coke, Diet Cherry Coke, are allowed. All other must bear the Kosher for Pessah symbol. Soy Milk: nature only, new bottle. Spices: They all need to have a Kosher for Pessah symbol. Sugar. Lantic, Redpath, or any other brand with a regular Kosher symbol are allowed. Sweetener: Sweet N Low powder or liquid, with O.U, Equal, Splenda and Sugar Twin are allowed. Tea: Green and black tea without additives or flavors are allowed. Tomato cans: pure, with no spices, with O.U, C.O.R., OK or M.K are allowed. Toothpaste: All brands are Kosher. On Pessah, it is better to avoid children s toothpaste with different flavors. Tums: Regular, Extra-strong and Ultra-strong are allowed. Tuna fish (canned): - The brand Dagim - C.R.C. and Star-K Hashgaha. Vitamins: Has to be Kosher for Pessah. Vaseline: All brands are allowed. Water: It is important to buy mineral water with kasherut the whole year because sometimes the water is pasteurized in a milk tank or in non kosher grape juice tanks. For Pessah O.U, COR, MK (without P) is fine.
6 Wine. All the Kosher wines are kosher for Pessah. Beer and whisky are 100% Hamets. Don t forget to sell all the Hamets that you have left. It is strictly forbidden to use or to profit from any Hamets (after Pessah) that was in our possession during Pessah.
