1 May 23, 2018 Corn: Florida s Spring Sweet Corn Crop is finishing in the next couple weeks. Georgia is starting this week with very limited availability. At this time volume and quality are projected to be excellent from Georgia. Market price will slightly drop as Georgia availability improves. We will transition into Georgia as product become available. VEGETABLES Asparagus: Good quality and production out of Washington and Michigan. Michigan is just starting up but should be a good crop this year. Broccoli: Broccoli 14 s and crowns will both increase in market price for next week. Overall supply is tightening up and prices are increase daily. Promoting these items is not recommended over the next two weeks. Cabbage: Market prices are stable. We are loading Georgia cabbage with good availability. Cauliflower: Cauliflower is starting to slowly recover and prices are starting to come down. Green Bell Peppers: California and Florida are shipping. Markets are high as volume is limited. California is shipping the best quality and where we are loading now. 2 Green/Red Leaf Lettuce: Green leaf and red leaf market price will decrease for next week. Supply is lighter than previous weeks as Salinas is experiencing cooler day and night time temperatures. In addition, mixed leaf lettuce has seen strong demand due to the issues surrounding the lack of demand for romaine. We are currently experiencing moderate pro rates at loading. Green Top Radishes: Local product is projected to be available early next week! Hard Squash: Mexico and Georgia are shipping. Markets are stable; however, butternut remains high with tight availability. Iceberg Lettuce: Iceberg will decrease in market price for next week. Supply is lighter than previous weeks as Salinas is experiencing cooler day and night time temperatures. In addition, iceberg has seen very strong demand due to the issues surrounding the lack of demand for romaine. Onions: Onion demand remains light. New crop onions are shipping from Texas, California, and Georgia and there are still some storage onion supplies available in Washington. Shippers across the country are looking for more business. We re transitioning to new crop bulk onions from New Mexico earlier than normal in order to obtain the highest quality product available. The first onions from New Mexico will be in our branches around Memorial Day. POTATOES: Russets: Russet potatoes are available in all shipping areas; however, some regions are seeing a tightening in supply. Carton pricing appears to be inching forward as inventories continue to shrink on that size. Reds: The red potato market remains steady across the regions. A rain/holiday market might be felt next week from Florida. Growers in the Red River Valley are looking to ship volume! Golds: Supplies of storage crop yellow potatoes continue are limited in all growing areas, as more growers have begun their new crop harvest. We re transitioning to new crop golds but still have a limited amount of storage crop ND and Idaho golds available. Red, Yellow, Orange Peppers: Canadian Hot House product is great supply. Markets are stable with great quality. Rhubarb: We are projected to have our first product available to deliver to stores on Friday 5/25! Romaine Lettuce: Both romaine hearts and carton romaine market price will remain steady for next week. Salinas production is in full-swing. Now is the time to promote! Snap/Snow Peas: All regions are light. Most due to Weather. Domestic and Mexican production supplementing drops from other regions and improving. Light availability on both Snows and Snaps. Sweet Mini Peppers: Most Mexican growing regions will finish in about 2 weeks and anticipate a gap in supply at that time. We will use some Hot House product as Western supply diminishes this Spring/early Summer. Zucchini and Yellow Squash: Mexico and Georgia are shipping, we are currently loading in both locations as Mexican volume is limited. California is projected to start soon. Markets are slightly declining. VALUE ADDED DOLE: Iceberg: Industry supply is strong. Romaine Lettuce: The current supply position is robust. Red & Green Leaf Lettuce: Good supply and quality on both. Conventional Spinach: Good supply and okay quality. Conventional Spring Mix: Good supplies and quality. MANNS: Butternut Squash: Butternut Squash raw material supplies continues to be tight this week. We are trying to find raw material through alternate sources, but have been unsuccessful. The shortage is expected to last an extended period of time. Items with Butternut Squash will be shorted this again this week. 3 Baby Arugula SKUs. Cantaloupe/Honeydew: We have made the transition to new crop Cantaloupe. A few shippers have some imports still available. Cherries: California s crop remains slow and steady. We will have rainier cherries available this weekend, and we will have organics available the first part of next week. Washington is slated to start packing June 6th - June 10th. FRUIT Apples: Import Braeburns are now available along with Import Gala s. We will be moving into New Zealand Honeycrisp in the next week. New Zealand Koru are now available and New Zealand Sweet Tango apples are finishing up for the season. Import Organic Braeburns and Import Pink Lady Apples are now available. New Zealand Lemonade Apples are now available. Avocados: Markets continue to be relatively stable. Peruvian fruit is on the water now and volumes are expected in increase quickly. They have gotten a late start, but that doesn t mean they can push the shipments to later in the year. Their harvesting window is tight. Mexico and California are expected to remain at or near current harvest levels. Mexico s numbers are expected to begin to really decline by mid to late June. Peru will help fill the supply gap that will leave. Blackberries: Conventional blackberry supply has tightened up considerably since last week. Central Mexico remains in a steady decline and California is not sizing up as quickly as originally expected. Organics remain in good supply with California regions producing healthy yields. Market price will increase on conventional and decrease on organics for next week. Blueberries: Conventional blueberry supply remains very light industry-wide. Rainfall in North Carolina has delayed production and California is off to a slow start producing light numbers overall. Organic supply is steady out of CA growing regions. Market price will come off slightly on conventional and hold steady on organics. CITRUS: Navels: It appears that California will deplete their navel orange supply around Mid- June. Smaller sizes will run out first. Import navels should start just in time to eliminate any shortages on oranges. Import navels will be promotable any time from mid-july through mid-october. Market pricing on imports this season will be a little higher than last year. Clementines- We will be transitioned to import clementines this weekend. Out of the gate the availability will be tight and markets will be higher. Clementine s will be promotable Mid-June, July, August, September and October. Clementine s will be the variety for June through mid- August with Murcotts as the variety from mid-august through October. The peak promotable time will be the week before and after the 4 th of July, the week before Labor Day and mid-september through October. Organic Navels- Organic navels are wrapping up for the season. We will be transitioning to Valencia s over the next week or two. Grapes: We have made the transition into Mexican grapes. Volume is starting to pickup look for promotable volumes in the coming weeks on all colors and sizes. Kiss Melons: The Kiss Melon season has been slightly delayed due to weather. We look to have our first shipment soon. Kiwi: We are running into a bit of a gap between our domestic and import crop. NZ Kiwi Fruit due the end of May!! Limes: We are starting to see better supplies of larger limes. Prices are starting to trend downward. Mangoes: The Guatemalan mangoes are finishing this week. Quality looks excellent, and we will see a little stronger prices on larger size mangoes over the next couple of weeks. Pears: Packham Pears are available and we are now into import Bosc Pears. We will have Washington Anjou Pears until late June early July. Raspberries: Conventional raspberry supply has tightened up considerably since last week. Central Mexico remains in a steady decline and California is not sizing up as quickly as originally expected. Organics remain in good supply with California regions producing healthy yields. Market price will hold steady on conventional and decrease on organics for next week. Stone Fruit: Volume is picking up every day. Look for sizing to improve in the coming weeks. Plums will be available around June 2nd. Currently peaches/nectarines/apricots are available. White Peaches/Nectarines will be available end of this week. Strawberries: Strawberries will drop in market price for next week. Supply from all California regions is strong with promotable volume available. Organics will also be in good supply. Now is the time to promote strawberries! TOMATOES: Roma: Quality remains very good from most shipping points. Markets are increasing and projected to go higher as Nogales is projected to finish shipping in early June. Grape/Cherry: Markets have slightly increased. Most of the product we are loading from Florida. On the Vine: Markets are slightly increasing as the Canadian growing regions have had very few sunny days of late, slowing plant production. Time to promote with great quality. WATERMELON: Florida has experienced heavy rains for the past couple of weeks and continues to get rain and this is making harvesting almost impossible. This is putting more pressure on Texas and Mexico, and we will continue to see a very strong market with limited supplies. The watermelon out of Texas and Mexico are sizing very big with little volume on smaller fruit. Mini Seedless: Market is strong as we have transitioned to domestic product. Organic Blueberries: Blueberries are way behind in production because of cooler weather. Things are starting to shape up and we should be back into normal blueberry numbers after this weekend Organic Brussels Sprouts: Brussels sprouts are from Mexico and California. Organic Butter Lettuce: Production is back to normal on the butter lettuce. Organic Grapes: Organic Flame and Perlette grapes are rolling! Organic Grape Tomatoes: DelCabo grape tomatoes will be plentiful and promotable for the next month. Organic Green Top Red Carrots: These will be gapping until the fall. Organic Fingerlings: We are done for the season with organic fingerling potatoes. Next season starts in June. Organic Jalapeños: Jalapeños have tightened up because the fields were attacked by a pepper weevil. Organic Mandarins: Mandarins are done for the season. We may be limited on cantaloupe, honeydew and mini watermelon until the new California crop gets rolling. Organic Pomegranates: Pomegranate arils from Chile are here again! Organic Potatoes: Hugh s Garden is packing red potatoes for us from Canada. He still has plenty of russets, variety pack and purple potatoes left. Yellows are coming from California. Organic Stone Fruit: Nectarines are here and more California peaches will be here this weekend. Apricots will be about 5 weeks away. We will have pluots next week.
