3 Domestic: Kharif pulses sowings are almost over now. Indian farmers have covered lakh ha as on against lakh ha last year and year's normal of lakh ha. Area coverage is 3.55 % lower than last year. Almost all pulses area, except Urad and Kulthi has declined this year in kharif season. Tur area declined by % to lakh ha(53.40 last year) against normal of lakh ha. Moong area declined by 8.01 % to lakh ha(34.59 last year) against normal of lakh ha. Kulthi area increased by % to 1.26 lakh ha against normal of 2.40 lakh ha. However, Urad performed well against all expectation. Its area increased by % to lakh ha(35.99 lakh ha)against normal of lakh ha.if we see overall decline, it is minor decline as total area is higher by 35.16% from normal area. Pressure on Chana market continues against all expectation and more dip is expected in the first half of October. In second half seed demand is likely to support market and it may trade in the range of Rs 5300 to Rs 5700 per qtl. in Delhi market. As import flow from October to December is likely to continue around one lakh tonne per month from Australia. It would fulfill the short supply expected in the lean season. Stock in domestic market is expected to be 25 to 30 lakh tonne and it is sufficient to meet the four months demand. New crop would hit Indian market from February. So any unexpected firmness is unlikely. As supply side of Moong is about to increase from kharif crop and demand is not up to the mark, firmness is unlikely in October. Moong is being traded at Rs 4600 per qtl. in Jaipur market and there is a possibility that some improvement might be seen in Moong price with the commencement of procurement on MSP by govt. s agencies. Private participants would avoid bulk buying as there is a fear in the market that after the end of procurement prices would decrease again as availability is higher. State agencies procurement quantity may go up as farmers would offer maximum Moong to Govt. for getting MSP. Moong Price is ruling Rs 1000 below MSP. Lentils cash market is likely to recover to some extent as seed demand is expected to emerge by October end. Demand for Masur dal and Masur is weak right now while domestic and imported stock is said to be higher than normal expectation. Imported Masur in Mumbai is being traded at Rs 3550/3600 per qtl.there is a fear in the market that farmers may reduce Masur area this year due to lower price.canada & Australia are offering broken red Lentils at $500 per tonne and $540 nipper type on CnF basis at Nhava Sheva respectively. Buying at current level is better to make average and get some better price by the end of this month. Tur market is likely to trade under pressure due to excess domestic and imported old stock in the market. Market is likely to trade in the range of Rs3800 to Rs 4200 per qtl. until procurement by govt. s agencies start for new crop. As area is lower by 18 percent, crop size would be lower by 10 lakh tonne. However, this shortfall would be nullified by excess stock available with govt. & private hands. As import limit is fixed at 1.5 lakh tonne,no import is expected now till March 2018.Decision on export early may help market to recover to some extent. However, if allowed, exporters would not be able to export as Burma is offering Tur at Rs to per tonne. Burma is offering Tur at $ 380/85 per T on CnF basis. Urad market has recovered due to commencement of procurement. Crop quality is good and supply side is expected to increase in coming weeks. Old stock is available in plenty against normal demand. Stockists have retained old stock and they might release stock with improving price. It would restrict market and pressure would continue. Urad might trade in the range of Rs 4400 to Rs 4800 per qtl. Burma is offering FAQ at Rs 3050 to Rs 3100 per qtl. on CnF basis. Retaining stock is unwise. Stake holders should start selling with improvement in market. As Chana is under pressure, there is no scope for peas to get firmer in October. Old stock is ample and import flow continues from Canada and Ukraine.Ukraine is offering peas at Rs 1810/1820 per qtl. at Nhava Shewa port. 3

4 International: (Back to Content) Harvesting of Lentils in Canada is almost over now. Experts say that yield is better than expected for 2017.Pulses grower s association sees Lentils production at 24 lakh tonne and total supply is expected to be around 27.5 lakh tonne in 2017.It would be lower by20 % from last year. Out of total production the share of red lentils would be around 15 lakh tonne & green lentils at around 8.75 lakh tonne. US may supply5.5 lakh tonne green lentils to Canada. So availability of Lentils for export would be ample throughout the year.quality of Canadian Lentils is good. Major buyers like India is in no hurry to get maximum supply from Canada from new crop due to higher availability in domestic market.so price in Canadian Lentils would depend on Australian quotes.green Lentils demand would continue as quality is better and Canada have adv order for supply.once the adv requirement is filled, green lentils price too might be under pressure.russian is offering green Lentils at $35per hundredweight for no. 2 quality. India had purchased around 9.1 lakh tonne lentils including green lentils from Canada. It was 37 % of total Canadian Lentils demand.right now 1.76 lakh tonne lentils are available on Indian ports.india consumes 1.5 lakh tonne Lentils per month. If we include domestic stock in it total availability comes to 3 to 4 lakh tonne. So from December requirement would increase and import volume might increase in new year. India may import 5 to 6 lakh tonne lentils in Chickpeas production in Canada has been estimated in the range of to over one lakh tonne as showed by various estimates in 2017.Crop size in US is expected to be higher than last year.it may be around 2lakh tonne. Desi Chick peas crop in Australia would be around 1MMT, quite lower from last year. But demand from India would decrease as sowing of Chana and its area is bound to increase by 5 % this year, starting from 20 th October As per latest update by USDA Peas production in USA would decrease by 45% to 697,043 tonne. Rough weather condition has impacted yield of all pulses. Besides, hot and dry weather lower area coverage (17%) to 1.15 million acres contributed to lower overall crop size. Average yield has decreased by 703 pounds per acres to1383 pounds per acre. It would be the lowest yield after 1996.harvesting is almost over now in Montona and North Dakota. Crop faced extreme moisture stress from growth/flowering stage to harvesting stages. Chickpeas production in Australia is expected to decrease by % to lakh tonne in from record lakh tonne Despite 4.43 % higher area coverage production is bound to decrease drastically due to hot and dry weather condition prevalent in the major growing regions. Chickpeas area increased from 1052 to 1099 thousand ha in Lentils production in Australia too is bound to decline from 8.3 to 4.19 lakh tonne in It is almost 50 % down from last year. Lentils area was reported higher by 16 % 3.55 lakh ha. Due to rough weather condition Lentils production would decline to 4.19 lakh tonne. Even field peas production is bound to decline by % to 2.8 lakh tonne in Australia had produced 4.15 lakh tonne field peas in Canada dry pea area is expected to decline by 3.44 % to lakh ha in Yield is expected to decrease by % to 2.45 T per ha.thus total production is expected to decline from 48 lakh tonne to 40 lakh tonne in As production is bound to decline, export volume too is expected to decrease from 38 to 32 lakh tonne in Total supply in Canada is likely to decrease from 50 lakh t to lakh Tonne.Price of pea may rule in the range of $280 to $310 per T in
