2 ~ Middle Of The Road Reds ~ Fleurie - France 21 A heady perfume of freshly picked irises and peonies drift above the crushed berry fruit nose. The fleshy, luscious, cherry flavours and hints of rose are typically vivacious, backed up with a touch of spice and good depth Shiraz Grenache - Australia 21 Warm plum and raspberry fruit on the nose with hints of dusty earth, spice and violets. Medium to full bodied with juicy plum and raspberry on the palate also, with black cherry, spice and a lick of creamy oak. It's a generous juicy mouthful with bags of fruit and spice, a hint of tea, good acidity too, keeping it vibrant. A slightly salty finish Shiraz Mouredre, Percheron - South Africa 23 Wonderfully lifted perfumed nose with bright fleshy raspberry fruit and a touch of savoury gaminess on the finish Rioja, Crianza - Spain 20 Cherry fruit, with pleasing vanilla and coconut Merlot, Peacock Ridge - South Africa 21 Deep, dense and youthful colour with aromas of cassis, cedar wood, smoke and herbal notes. On the palate the Peacock Ridge Merlot is elegant and evolved with upfront dark black fruit, a touch of crushed rocks, mocha, liquorice and tar, balanced by fine yet seductive tannins. Weight, concentration and a long complex finish Shiraz - Mataro, Naked On Skates - Australia 28 Expressive notes of musk, violets and charcuterie meats. The palate is dense with black fruits, a little quince and juniper spice Pinot Noir, Neptune - New Zealand 24 Light, smooth and perfectly balanced with notes of plum and black cherry Signee, Saint-Chinian - France 26 Syrah and Grenache with some Carignan from old vines. Medium in colour and weight with a perfumed nose which comes from the schistous terrain. More perfume on the palate and lots of red fruit and spice flavours. Overall the wine is very well balanced with refined tannins Cuvee Olric, Minervois - France 28 40% Mouvedre, 40% Carignan, 20% Syrah. Not oaked. A slightly unusual blend. The Mouvedre and the Carignan are vinified by carbonic maceration (gives a lighter fruit flavour) and the Syrah by a traditional vinification. The blended wine is then aged in tanks for 12 months. The Carignan and lack of oak make this wine fruitier, but the Syrah gives it a backbone

3 ~ Special Reds ~ Chateau Cessaras, Minervois La Lavinier, AOC 2011/12 - France 38 70% Syrah traditionally vinified and 10% each of Grenache, Mouvedre, Carignan the latter 3 having been given a carbonic maceration vinification to enhance fruit flavours. After blending, 2/3 is held in new oak for 12 months, the rest in vats. After final blending of the oaked and vatted portions, the finished blended wine is held in vat for 12 months before bottling. The 2011 was the International Trophy prize winning wine in the Decanter worldwide awards 2014 in the Red Rhone Varietals. Exceptional. Viels Arrasics Saint-Chinian AOC France 37 50% Syrah, 25% Grenache and 25% Mouvedre. The nose has elements of cassis, vanilla, toast, coffee and chocolate. The palate is very dense with firm tannins combining with intense fruit flavours and a long finish leaving hints of cedar. This high class, outstanding wine Pic St. Martin, Minervois - France 42 79% Syrah plus 21% Grenache (no Mouvedre). The palate is Syrah dominated with dried fruits and bitter cherries on the nose. It has very good length on the palate and is a characterful and classy example of a La Laviniere. The wine is drinking very well now, especially if decanted a little before drinking D une maine a l autre Saint-Chinian Berlou AOC 2013, La Grange Leon - France 49 40% Syrah, 30% Grenache, 30% Carignan, all destemmed and traditionally fermented. 2/3 of the blended wine is aged for 6 to 12 months in oak, the rest is aged in tank before final blending and bottling. The nose has intense very ripe black fruit with spice and roast aromas. There is some minerality on the palate with dense and rounded fruit flavour enhanced by firm tannins. The wine has a long silky finish Chateau Musar - Lebanon 42 Musar Jeune. Cinsaulty, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon. Intense ruby colour with aromas of cherries, blackcurrants and blueberries. Soft and lush on the palate, offering notes of violets, subtle spice, mature dark fruit and classic savoury gamey notes Pomerol 55 This is 100% old vine Merlot from a tiny parcel (0.56 hec) of exceptional terroir in heart of the Pomerol vineyard. It is inky black with intense, super ripe sweet fruit. Concentrated, rich and very classy with expensive spicy oak, the wine has lots of potential. Drink in 10 to 15 years
