3 CASA E DI MIRAFIORE Year Founded: 1878 Name of Proprietor: Oscar Farinetti & Partners Name of Winemaker: Danilo Drocco Area Cultivated: 70 hectares Annual Production: 900,000 bottles Varieties Cultivated: Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo History: The winery was founded in the 1870s by King Vittorio Emanuel II of Savoy and named for his son (with Countess Bela Rosin), Emanuele, Count of Mirafiore within the Fontanafredda village in Serralunga d Alba, Piedmont. The name was lost from the estate in the 1940s and passed through several owners until Oscar Farinetti, owner of Fontanafredda, bought the Mirafiore name once again. The wines of Casa E. di Mirafiore are made from red grape varieties traditional to the region and which were vinified at Mirafiore during Emanuele s time. Respected winemaker Danilo Drocco follows traditional Piedmontese vinification practices including a lengthy maturation on the skins and use of large oak casks. The essence of Casa E. di Mirafiore comes to life at the estate in the Fondazione E. di Mirafiore, which includes a restaurant, library, and theater where the winery hosts poetry, music, and speaking events.

4 SERRALUNGA D ALBA Serralunga is one of the highest hills in the Langhe. Serralunga has compact, sandstone-based soil dating from the Helvetian epoch, high in sand, and chalky limestone (highest active percentage in all of Barolo), iron, phosphorus and potassium, its makeup varying widely from vineyard to vineyard. At the northern edge of town stretching into La Morra, the large slope which contains Brunate and Cereqio has an equally long and celebrated history. The combination of the the sandy soil fond in La Morra and the clay-rich soils of Monforte d Alba, lends both expressiveness and fruit from the sandy soils and structure from the clay. 7 CASA E DI MIRAFIORE BAROLO Casa E di Mirafiore Barolo is made from a selection of Nebbiolo vineyards within the commune of Serralunga d Alba and is the result of long maceration and 2 years aging in medium and large sized oak barrels. Paiagallo Paiagallo is situated in the village of La Villa in the commune of Barolo between 320 and 370 meters and is east-southeast facing. Here, the soils have high levels of limestone and vine density is 4,800 vines/hectare. Mirafiore Barolo Paiagallo is aged for 1 year in barrique, 1 year Allier oak barrels, and 1 year in bottle. Lazzarito Mirafiore s parcel of the Lazzarito vineyard is located mid-hillside facing south and southwest. After destemming, the crushed grapes are kept at a controlled temperature up to around C, and frequent pumping over begins during the first three days. During the fermentation, lasting days, regular délestage is performed. The alcoholic fermentation is followed immediately by the malolactic fermentation, which is encouraged by keeping the wine in the cellar at a natural temperature of around 20 C. Aging occurs for two years in barrels between 2,000 14,000 liters and one year in the bottle.
