2 PRESS Jeb Dunnuck November 2013 These awesome wines are made by the young, yet incredibly talented, Julien Barrot. Now producing just two cuvees from his 32 acres of sandy soils, he first took over the winemaking in 2002 and has since produced one spectacular vintage after another (don t miss his 2010s!). The winemaking here is very traditional with some stem inclusion and aging all in tank and very old foudre. The wines typically show rich, voluptuous, yet elegant profiles and are relatively accessible in their youth, yet also age gracefully Domaine la Barroche Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Signature Rating : 92 Drink : A gorgeous base cuvee, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Signature checks in as a blend of 65% Grenache and the rest Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault that s aged all in tank and larger foudre. Dishing out loads of black cherry, toasted spice, red licorice and underbrush, this medium to fullbodied beauty is seamless, silky and refined on the palate, with ultra-fine tannin. Already superb, it should nevertheless evolve gracefully on its balance and harmony Domaine la Barroche Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Pure Rating : 95 Drink : An undeniable success in the vintage, and one of the top wines, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Pure is a spectacular blend of almost all Grenache, all from sandy soils and 100+-year-old vines, that was aged all in an older foudre. Rayas-like with its perfumed kirsch, rose petal, dried spice and pepper aromas and flavors, this medium to full-bodied wine has beautiful mid-palate depth, a pure silk texture and building tannin on the finish. Incredibly rich in the vintage, it should age beautifully for years or more.

3 PRESS Robert Parker October 2012 The brilliant Julien Barrot has decided to produce only two cuvees of Chateauneuf du Pape from the family s nearly 32 acres of vineyards. It is amazing what Julien has accomplished since he began working at Domaine La Barroche. The first great vintage produced by Barrot was 2005, and he has continued with a remarkable succession of riveting wines. One of the world s greatest red wines is his 300 or so cases of Pure that come from a lieu-dit called Grand Pierre next to the famed Chateau Rayas. The Pure is 100% Grenache from 105- year-old vines. The cuvee called Signature includes an intriguing component of less than 10% 70-year-old Cinsault, which gives the wine an extraordinary fragrance as well as a delicacy that can be missing in these southern Rhone wines. Rating : Drink : Domaine la Barroche Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Signature Admirably demonstrating the winemaking and viticultural skills of Julien Barrot, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape is a seriously endowed wine that transcends the overall quality of this vintage. Its dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by copious aromas of black raspberries, kirsch, lavender and licorice. A sleeper of the vintage, this medium to full-bodied 2011 should drink well for 6-8 years. Rating : Drink : Domaine la Barroche Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Pure The 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Pure may be the wine of the vintage. It boasts terrific intensity as well as a majestic perfume of black and red fruits intertwined with floral, sandy soil and lavender notes. This astonishingly rich, essentially naked wine (it was aged totally in old foudres) should age effort-lessly for years.

4 REVUE DE PRESSE January Josh Raynolds Julien Barrot has been focused on making only two bottlings for a few years now--signature, which is a grenache-dominant blend, and Pure, his flagship wine, from the estate's oldest grenache vines in the Grande Pierre lieu-dit. The latter vines are now over 115 years old, making them some of the most ancient of the entire region. He admitted that he is naturally inclined to experiment and that it's hard for him to resist the temptation to do multiple cuvees, "but it's more important to maintain consistency and stability than to be all over the place, as fun as that might be." Barrot's sister Laetitia is now firmly in charge of administrative work at the family domain, which in France is a particularly onerous endeavor, and thus Julien has more time to devote to vineyard and cellar work. The result has been a subtle shift to more elegance in the Barroche wines, a conscious move that Julien attributes to stricter attention to retaining acidity in the grapes and to gentler extraction. That said, these are still wines that typically carry lofty alcohol levels. "Chateauneuf is considered elegant among wines of the south," Julien observed, "but even the most feminine Chateauneuf is always going to have power and weight, even in years like 2011, so working. the wines too much can push them away from elegance." Rating : Domaine la Barroche Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Signature Vivid ruby. Dark berry and floral scents show very good clarity and spicy lift. Offers gently sweet black and blue fruit flavors that spread out with air, picking up subtle anise and sassafras nuances and a hint of white pepper. Lingers with very good energy and spiciness and gentle tannic grip. This should be very drinkable in a couple of years, or Rating : Domaine la Barroche Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Pure Bright purple. Room-filling aromas of black and blue fruit liqueur, sandalwood, licorice and candied lavender. Sweet, deeply concentrated and expansive, offering palatecoating blueberry, cherry compote and spicecake flavors and an intense floral pastille quality. Shows striking power on the sappy, penetrating finish, which is firmed by chewy

5 PRESS Josh Raynods for Stephan Tanzer s International Wine Cellar January 2013 Julien Barrot is now focusing on making two wines, Signature and Pure, with the option to make a Terroir bottling in weaker vintages, like Barrot is pleased with what he was able to accomplish in 2011, which he describes as a vintage "that is definitely about the grower and how much work they did in the vineyard." 2011 Domaine la Barroche Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Signature Rating : Deep ruby. Sexy aromas of blueberry, cola and lavender, with smoke and allspice topnotes. Pliant and expansive, offering juicy dark fruit flavors that gain energy with air. Closes smooth and long, with resonating spiciness and excellent clarity. Tannins eventually came up with air but work in harmony with this wine's more 2011 Domaine la Barroche Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Pure Rating : Vivid ruby-red. Heady, intensely perfumed aromas of dark fruit preserves, incense and potpourri. Stains the palate with deeply concentrated boysenberry and cherrycola flavors, with a spicy nuance adding vibrancy. Refuses to let up on the finish, which emphatically repeats the cola and spice notes. Very rich and velvety, with a hint of warmth on the back end. Barrot told me that this wine will likely be bottled at 17.3% alcohol. That is not a typo.
