GETTING TO KNOW YOU by Doris Hoover AVON CALLING Ms Joanne Young is a sales representative for Avon Products, Inc., a company founded in 1886 selling beauty, household, and personal care products. Joanne has been employed with this company for 45 years and still going strong. That must be a record. This energized, calm, cool, and collected wonderful woman is our Getting To Know You member of the month. Joanne was born on a cold wintry December 27, 1955, day in Chestertown, MD to John and Edith Lloyd. Her father was a carpenter and her mother was a stay at home Mom, caring for their six children. Joanne has two brothers and three sisters. She attended the Greensboro and Denton, MD schools. Her first employment was with the Hillsboro, MD cannery. But says her favorite job was making subs at the Country Store. Joanne moved to Lincoln DE where she married her childhood sweetheart, David Young. David was employed with Purdue and also a painter and carpenter. They were married 40 happy years before his death. During this time frame, Joanne was employed with Sussex County, DE, retiring after working 24 years. Joanne drives to the Dover Wesleyan Drive-In Church every Sunday morning for the 8:15 to 9:00 a.m. service and immediately following drives back to Milford to attend the Milford Baptist Church service. She is a member of the Milford VFW serving as a Guard and a volunteer at the Milford Riverside Theater for the 2nd Street Players productions. She is also a member of Frederica Senior Center and the Harrington Senior Center. Her favorites are: the color blue, eating a delicious meal of chicken and dumplings at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant, the song You Are My Sunshine, Hank Williams Sr. and enjoys watching Days of Our Lives on TV. She is a Premium Club Member at the mall and attends the movie theater every Thursday. The last Sunday of every month, she attends the gospel music performance at the Harrington Pilgrim Church and always attends the Buddy s Hide-A-Way music fests. She says her yearly vacations to the islands, Dominican Republic and Mexico are the very best. Joanne s advice: treat everybody good and respectful, just the way you want to be treated. The Frederica Senior Center is so fortunate to have Joanne Young as a member and a loyal friend. Please give a hearty hello and a happy smile to this month s Getting To Know You recipient.
