History by Scott Fornwalt Casher Evans, Mabel Evans and Edgar Rickards opened Fenwick Crab House in 1962. My first experience with the Fenwick Crab House was that same year (1962) as a 6 year old. I had my first steamed clams and they cost one dollar. My family and I returned every summer for the next 8 years and every year I had steamed clams. I would be the one to encourage my parents to go out to eat at Fenwick Crab House where I could buy my own dinner for one dollar. Once I turned 16, I worked at Warren s Station in Fenwick Island, first as a dishwasher then as a cook. I quickly decided that owning a restaurant in Fenwick was my goal. I enrolled at Michigan State in their Hotel/Restaurant School pursued and earn my Bachelor s Degree. But every summer while in college, I continued to work at Warrens as a breakfast cook and in addition, I worked at the Warf Restaurant as a waiter for the experience. After graduating from Michigan State, I took a job with the Gilbert/Robinson restaurant corporation. At that time, their cutting edge restaurant concept was for Houlihans and I felt I could learn a great deal working for Gilbert/Robinson. My first assignment with them was at the Houlihan s in New Orleans where I learned a great deal about the business and life in general. After 3 years and a motorcycle accident, I left NOLA to become the Kitchen Manager at the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach, Delaware, where I learned about the local restaurant market All of this experience was constructed and aimed at what I needed to do to own this special place, the Fenwick Crab House in Fenwick Island, Delaware.
Fenwick Crab House Mission: Farm to Table Fenwick Crab House Mission: Farm to Table Since 1983 and as chef-owner, it has been my mission to be on the culinary cutting edge with our recipes and style of food often staying ahead of the trends. Currently, Farm-to-Table menus are trending. At the Fenwick Crab House, we have been buying local produce, poultry and seafood for 30 years. Farm-to-Table and Fresh-off-The-Boat! At the Fenwick Crab House, you will dine on locally-sourced specialties like Blackened Scallops, Tomatoes and Corn-on-the-Cob, Clams Casino, Crab Dip, our famous Fried Chicken and beautifully marbled Steaks from Creekstone Farms. Corn, tomatoes, beans, peas, squash, radishes, broccoli, cabbage, lettuce, bok choy, parsley and fresh herbs are just some of the indigenous produce included on our menus this year. In addition, we make an effort to have our poultry and steaks sourced locally, too. And while most of the other restaurants purchase seafood from middle distributors, we have gone the extra mile to acquire our product - right off the boat! Federal regulations require both the Fisherman and the Buyer to be federally licensed. The Fenwick Crab House has a federal license to purchase product directly off the boat, legally. We have been buying local produce, poultry and seafood for 30 years staying decades ahead of the current trend.
