Celebrate this Christmas by helping a child through Operation Christmas Child and the Shoebox Ministry program. From children to seniors, people pack shoebox gifts each year to bless children in need around the world. Samaritan s Purse, and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), now led by Billy Graham s son, Franklin Graham, have been named on a list of the top 10 charities working to change the world. Ranked at #4 is Samaritan s Purse which has distributed more than 135 million shoeboxes filled with gifts for needy children through - Operation Christmas Child. Oak Grove Inn is hoping that some of you might like to again participate in this service project. We still have decorative shoe boxes (pictured above) left from last year along with toys that Management purchased to go in the shoe boxes. If you want to participate, you can select an age group and gender (boy or girl) to make items more gender specific. You can also enclose a personal note or greeting card inside the box. If you have family members that would like to take part it would be a welcomed addition. Just let them know what kind of items from the list they should shop for or have them stop by the office and pick up one of the pamphlets. Those of you who would like to participate can do so in several different ways; 1) If you are unable to go shopping, you might consider giving a one-time monetary gift of which Oak Grove Inn staff would go and purchase items on your behalf from the suggested items list. 2) If you would like to purchase items yourself you can begin doing so by our current weekly trips to Walmart or by our added trips (i.e., Dollar Tree) in November. If you decide to shop yourself, there is a list of recommended items to shop for and those items NOT to buy. If you need a copy of the shopping list, please see Chris. *We have Operation Christmas Child pamphlets available in the office. On one side of the pamphlet it mentions to include a $9.00 (or more) donation. Please disregard. It will not be necessary. Your help is needed in getting the shoeboxes ready for packing. On Thursday, Nov. 1st at 10:30 that morning we will fold the boxes. Then, on Thursday, the 15th our Shoebox Packing Party will take place in the AL activity area at 2:30 where everyone will get together and pack the boxes with the items/toys that have been purchased/collected. On Monday morning, Nov. 19th, the shoeboxes will be loaded on our bus and taken to our closest drop-off location, Frazer United Methodist Church, while out on our Joy Ride.
