FROM THE ROWING CO-ORDINATO FROM THE ROWING CO-ORDINATOR Welcome ASTERIA, our newest quad scull, which was named and blessed in a short ceremony at school on Tuesday. The purchase of this boat is a direct result of the fundraising work of the rowing community, so ably led by the Boat Club Committee. The Pulteney fleet is the envy of many schools (and some clubs), we are indeed most fortunate to have such an active group supporting our rowers and coaches - huge thanks. The other part of that equation is, of course, the school whose continued support is very gratefully acknowledged. This support is both financial and 'personal' with good staff representation at regattas and various Boat Club functions. Put simply, without the backing of the school we could not exist. Asteria will be raced by the Year 8/9 Girls A crew for the first time on Saturday, please come along to celebrate with the rest of our community and support our Juniors. Due to limited availability of rowers, Pulteney boated only three crews at the 'Round the Island' time trial at West Lakes. This annual event sends boats on a winding journey around Delfin Island, a distance of around 7km. Crews recorded good results as follows; Schoolboy 1st IV 1st (by 43 seconds) Schoolgirl 1st IV 2nd (by 5 seconds) Schoolboy Yr 9/10 Coxed Quad Scull 3rd No. 31, 2013 2014 Season 21 November 2013 Editors: H Glynn-Roe, L Radford, R Sexton Contents: From the Rowing Co-ordinator From the President Race Entries Diary Dates 2013 2014 From the Committee: 2013 Pulteney Boat Club Wine Fundraiser http://www.trybooking.com/dxhg Diary Dates: Pulteney Boat Club Meeting: Monday 6 January 2014 6.30 for 6.45pm start All welcome. GOOD ROWING - GO PULTENEY!! Richard Sexton, Rowing Co-ordinator FROM THE PRESIDENT The season is now well under way and it's fair to say that the Pulteney Boat Club is off to a good start. Already we've seen some great early results from a number of our crews in the 'Round the Island' event last weekend and other recent outings. It's always good to see those results and it helps enormously to build enthusiasm and team spirit for the rest of the summer. These results and those that may well come this weekend, will help carry our crews through the Christmas period and the important training regimes that await early in the new year. Well done to all our crews and congratulations to those crews who have already enjoyed some medal success. It's also been a strong start to the season by parents supporting our rowers and for the Club committee as we'll. So far we've seen strong financial returns from our first full regatta, a fun and successful Quiz night and now we're in the midst of our first wine drive. These are all important results for the club as well, because it's about galvanising our efforts and being successful in raising funds for the club. work which provides the base for coaches and rowers to work from. Their efforts also grow from the support from these fundraising efforts in tangible ways through better equipment, but also in other less tangible, but still very real and important ways. The other reflection of the Club's early season success has also come in the christening of our newest boat ASTERIA at the school on Tuesday. It is a magnificent new boat and will give our Junior girls some of the best equipment to start their rowing careers. The event at the school was also pleasing because it exposes this wonderful, sleek new boat to the broader school community. That helps to both attract attention to the sport and to help build the profile of rowing within the school. It was great to see Dr Groghan and Mr Ryan there to witness the event and to lend their support to the sport, as the important offering that is within the school. May ASTERIA provide the base for our junior girls this year and beyond to excel - we wish them every success. Now let's all get behind our final regatta for this term on Saturday, support our rowers and the club. And between now and then, please tell all your friends about the quality wine we have on offer at bargain prices. You will enjoy this wine. The more we sell, the more we'll raise for the club!
