Step 6 There are six different ways to improve the introductory paragraph. You may combine more than one style. 1. Rhetorical Question What are you going to have for dinner tonight? What is your favorite kind of food? 2. Present a Startling Fact 16.7 million children under 18 in the United States live in households where they are unable to consistently access enough nutritious food necessary for a healthy life. 3. Quote a Respected Source Sophia Loren said, Every thing I have, I owe to spaghetti. According to J.R.R. Tolkien, If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. 4. Use a Literary Device Slurp! Smack! Sloosh! Eating spaghetti can be as fun as it tastes! If you are what you eat, then I must be divine! 5. Make a General Statement Spaghetti and meat sauce is a fairly nutritious meal that is easy to make. Eating right is important when striving to stay healthy. 6. Pose a Challenging Question If you knew that giving up your dinner and going to bed hungry would feed a child who regularly does not get enough food, would you? If raising taxes would make sure that all children across America had enough food, would you pay them?

Step 7 Write the body of your paper using the information in the middle of your thinking map. Make sure to include your imbedded transitions. Each box is a separate paragraph. Did you know that 16.7 million children under 18 in the United States live in households where they are unable to consistently access enough nutritious food necessary for a healthy life? Spaghetti and meat sauce is a fairly nutritious meal that is easy to make. Sophia Loren said, Every thing I have, I owe to spaghetti. First, spaghetti and meatballs is a great meal because it s easy. You simply roll up the meat into golf ball-sized pieces, and then throw it in the pot. You can then pour on store-bought sauce. My favorite band is Mama someone or other. Also, spaghetti and meatballs is a great meal because it s fun to eat. I like to twirl it on my fork. It looks just like a twister. It s fun to slurp because it makes a loud smacking noise. I always splatter the sauce. One time, I splattered so much sauce in the kitchen that it looked like an explosion had occurred there. Third, spaghetti and meatballs is a great meal because it s delicious. I like the tangy taste of red tomatoes. The Italian spices are great, especially the zippy garlic. The meat is very filling. It kind of reminds me of eating a hamburger.

Step 8 There are ten types of closing paragraphs. You may combine more than one style. 1 1. Money I would love to be able to eat in fancy restaurants every night. Some day, when I win the lottery, I am going to spend every dinner eating spaghetti in expensive Italian restaurants. 2. Role Modeling My mom was a wonderful cook and her home-made spaghetti was always my favorite food growing up. My love of spaghetti has remained through adulthood, and I still think that no spaghetti is as good as hers. 3. Responsibility All parents have the responsibility to feed their children a healthy and nutritious meal for dinner. Spaghetti is just one of those options. 4. Safety Eating a nutritious dinner is very important. Every morning, when coming to work, I think back to dinner the night before and am very thankful that I was able to have a healthy dinner that filled me up so that I am not distracted and tired while driving. 5. Pleasure When I smell the clean, crisp, earthy smell of oregano, and the pungent smells of garlic and onion mixed with tomatoes, my mouth starts to water. The sizzle of the hamburger makes me hunger for dinner to be done. There is nothing as good as a heaping plate of spaghetti. 6. Health If you don t eat the right kind of dinner, you ll be hungry in the evenings and be craving sugary snacks before you go to bed. Sugary snacks can rot your teeth, which leads to gum disease and other complications. This can all be avoided by eating nutritious meals like spaghetti and meat sauce for dinner.

7. Self-Image Being seen eating junk food all the time gives the impression that you don t care about your body. Why not take spaghetti and meat sauce to school instead and be seen as a person who takes responsibility for his personal health? 8. Time Imaging having time to actually finish that book you ve been reading, or to write that e-mail to your friend you haven t seen in years. Spaghetti and meat sauce is an easy meal, which doesn t take a lot of time to make. Think of all the things you could do with all your free time! 9. Equality Every day, people across our country and the world live in severe poverty and don t have food to put on the table. Theses people don t have the advantage of having a delicious meal like spaghetti and meat sauce as often as you and I do. 10. Family Some of the fondest memories I have are of sitting around the dinner table with my family eating my mom s home-made spaghetti and discussing how our days went. I hope that I am creating similar memories for my son.
