BURGUNDY Benjamin Leroux 2013 Corton Grand Cru $185.84 This too is slightly advanced aromatically with a mix of gamy and earthy red currant and floral scents. There is fine mid-palate density and an overt muscularity to the vibrant and again firmly mineral-driven big-bodied flavors where the supporting tannins are relatively fine-grained. While the structure would suggest at least 10 years of aging potential the nose suggests that a compromise is in order and thus my suggested drinking window is slightly earlier than it otherwise might be. 89-92, Burghound, #58, April 15, 2015 2015 Corton Grand Cru $216.81 Bright, light red. Reticent aromas of redcurrant and orange zest. Compellingly pliant, silky and voluminous, with very ripe red berry and milk chocolate flavors dominating. Largescaled but not overextracted. Finishes ripely tannic and essentially smooth, if with a touch of alcoholic warmth. In a rather full-blown style. 92, ST, Vinous, Jan 2018. 2015 Monthelie Les Duresses $57.52 Pure ripe peach on the nose. A lovely midweight with peach and spice flavors framed by harmonious acidity and firmed by a spine of minerality. Finishes stony and persistent. A very rich Monthélie from 25-year-old vines. ' 88-90, ST, Vinous, Sept. 2016. BEAUJOLAIS Clos de la Roilette 2016 Fleurie, Cuvee Tardive (1500 ml) $72.56 Lurid magenta. A complex, expansive bouquet evokes ripe boysenberry and black raspberry, along with pungent floral, spice and herb notes. Coats the palate with sweet red/blue fruit, candied violet and spicecake flavors that deepen and spread out steadily with aeration. Conveys a suave blend of richness and energy and finishes extremely long and nervy, displaying harmonious tannins and resonating florality. 94, Josh Raynolds, VM, October, 2017 MACON Domaine Merlin 2016 Macon La Roche Vineuse $29.96
RHONE VALLEY Domaine de Jean-Paul & Corinne Jamet 2013 Côte Rotie $149.56 Still not in bottle, the 2013 Cote Rotie was more tight and reserved on this occasion than during my tastings last year. Nevertheless, it still offers terrific depth and concentration, as well a plenty of tannic grip. Offering classic notes of violets, blackberries, raspberries, cured meats and pepper, it has a certain austerity and will be one to hide in the cellar for a good 6-7 years. 92-94, Jeb Dunnuck, RP, #222, December 30, 2015 Domaine la Garrigue 2015 AOC Vacqueyras $30.97 LANGUEDOC Chateau Aiguilloux 2014 Corbières Cuvee Des Trois Seigneurs $21.90 Domaine Roque Sestière 2015 Corbières Blanc Carte Noire $22.00 BORDEAUX Château Franc Cardinal 2012 Earl du Cardinal $20.50 ALSACE Bott Geyl NV Crémant D Alsace Paul-Edouard Extra-Brut $32.00
Domaine Schoffit 2015 Chasselas Vieilles Vignes $27.43 The citrus colored 2015 Chasselas Vieilles Vignes opens with a generous and aromatic bouquet with ripe pears and tropical fruit aromas along with some chalky/smoky flavors. Round and smooth on the palate, this is creamy textured and mouth-filling Chasselas with lower acidity (malolactic included) and higher residual sugar than the 2014. Tropical fruit flavors and fine tannins in the finish. 88, Stephan Reinhardt, RP, #229, Feb 2017 CHAMPAGNE Bernard Depoivre NV Champagne Brut $57.52 NV Champagne Rosé $66.37 LOMBARDY ARPEPE 2016 Rosso di Valtellina $39.82 2015 Sassella Valtellina Superiore, Stella Retica $69.03 TUSCANY STELLA DI CAMPALTO 2013 Rosso di Montalcino $84.07 This wine is right out of Stella's celebrated Sangiovese playbook. It shows a beautiful sense of crispness and brightness that translates to both the bouquet and the palate. Wild roses and cherries give the wine a sense of warmth and liveliness. Indeed, those delicate floral aromas are very specific to both the vintage and the house style. 92, Monica Larner, RP, #235, Feb 28, 2018
