HELLENIC REPUBLIC HELLENIC STATISTICAL AUTHORITY Piraeus, 30 November 2016 PRESS RELEASE 2015 VINEYARD SURVEY The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) announces the provisional results of the Vineyard Survey for the year 2015, on the basis of data deriving from the Vineyard Register, maintained by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food. From 1982 until 2013, the Vineyard Survey used to be conducted by ELSTAT on an annual basis pursuant to Council Regulation (EEC) 357/79. According to the new Regulation in force (EU) No 1337/2011, repealing Regulation (EEC) No 357/79, the survey is conducted every five years, with 2015 the first reference year. Furthermore, in accordance with the new regulation, data are not collected through sample surveys but they derive from the Vineyard Register which, in Greece, is maintained by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food. The results of 2015 Vineyard Survey are not comparable with those of previous surveys on account of: 1) the different method used for conducting the survey, namely with the use of administrative source data instead of sample surveys and 2) the different coverage, as in the current survey, according to the Regulation, vines with table grapes are not included. For this reason, users should be cautious when using and comparing the 2015 survey results with the corresponding results of previous years. Information: Division of Primary Sector Statistics Section of Livestock and Crop Capital Statistics M.
