Guilin is located in the southwestern part of China. According to geological surveys, this area was submerged as an ocean 370 million years ago. Through geologic time, the land was formed and then eroded to sculpture the beautiful hills, caves and rivers. It is this unique scenery that makes Guilin world famous. In this Issue: Trip to Guilin 1 Planter of the Month 2 Fall Items 2004 3 Fresh off the Boat 4 TammyK's Recipe 5 Future Farmers of America 5 TammyP''s Mind Teaser 5 Critter of the Month 6 Lijiang River Guilin, China The Lijiang Tour is a must trip for anyone visiting Guilin. Lijiang is a tributary of Zhujiang River which originates in Mountain Cat Xingan Country in North Guilin. It winds and meanders its way for 437 kilometers, passing through Guilin, Yangshuo, Pingle and Wuzhou. Between Guilin and Yangshuo, Lijiang River travels 83 kilometers like a jade ribbon winding among thousands of the hills. Along the river, the landscapes are especially spectacular with fantastic rock formations and caves, deep pools, springs and waterfalls. The refl ection of the hills in the clear and greenish water is like bright, beautiful picture. A hundred miles of the Lijiang River gives us a hundred mile pictures gallery. Modern and ancient poems and literary works express an appreciation of her beauty. This was my fi rst trip on Lijiang River. I was busy taking video and pictures. Because of limited time, I captured only a small part of Guilin's scenery. I would like to take my family on our next vacation to beautiful Guilin. TammyK Future Farmers of America AAA Imports is supporting the FFA (Future Farmers of America) for Lyman High School! The students of FFA offer membership to the Plantof-the-Month club. Members of the club will receive a plant delivered to their classroom or offi ce. This fundraiser club is an educational activity in which the students can apply their horticultural knowledge and help to provide resources for FFA activities, such as trade shows and state competitions. It also allows the students to help educate the public on horticulture matters and the FFA program. The pictures shown in this month s newsletter are just a few of the large variety of plants and containers available for those participating in the Plant-of-the-Month club. Jenny Hello. AAA Im ports, Inc. 407-884-0078 September 2004 Page 6 Critter of the Month The Blue-Footed Booby This month I will be writing about an amusing creature, the blue-footed booby (Sula nebouxii). This bird got its name from the Spanish who called it bobo - meaning stupid fellows. They are about the size of a goose, fearless, and very clumsy, hence the name. The blue-footed boobies live in areas such as the islands of Galapagos, along the Gulf of California and the western coastlines of Mexico, Ecuador, and Peru. The amazing characteristic about this bird is its large, bright blue feet, which come in handy for many things. During mating season, the male parades around a potential mate, raising his big blue feet in slow stepping motions. He will also fl ash them at her when he fl ies around his territory. Both males and females use their feet in the raising their young. Instead of incubating the eggs by sitting on them, the eggs are constantly kept warm by their parents hot feet! As the baby boobies hatch, the eggs are held on top on mom s or dad s feet. There they will stay warm until they grow feathers and their own big blue feet can get them around. Just take a look at this pictures and you ll see how goofylooking these amazing birds really are! Jenny Returns / Credits In order to assure proper credit to our customers for returns/broken items please adhere to the following: When calling into AAA Imports, please make sure you also fax a completed return authorization to AAA. When customers are dropping off products, please advise your sales rep and the front desk that you have returned/dropped-off broken pots. If a trucking company is returning/dropping-off broken pots, please advise them to follow the above rules. AAA Imports' policy toward credit is all claims must be reported to AAA within 10 working days of receipt/pick-up of the merchandise to receive credit. If any other questions please refer to TERMS inside cover of our catalogs. Thank you.
