The Busy Bees August 2016 The James F. McGuire Memorial Senior Center 116 Paris Avenue Northvale, NJ 07647 201-767-6299 Director - Pam Carpanini Monday through Thursday : 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Friday: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm - Sunday 1 pm to 3:30 pm Social Service Hours Every Day - 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Center is funded in part by the Bergen County Department of Human Services. New Jersey Senior Citizens Information & Referral Service: 1-800-792-8820 A Special Note! On June 16, 2016, on behalf of the James F. McGuire Senior Center, Pam presented a Good Citizenship award to an 8th grade Northvale student, Michael Bargna. He was awarded a monetary donation. Please read the heartfelt thank you note we received. As you can see, Michael was very deserving of this award.

From the desk of Pam Carpanini Hope everyone has been surviving the heat and staying hydrated! Our building is always nice and cool and filled with many people to socialize with. As you can see, we offer so many different activities throughout the week as well as delicious meals for lunch. You are always welcome to come and participate in whatever works for you; we would be so happy to have you! For Your Information The James F. McGuire Senior Center is a facility that you can come to in an emergency situation. For example, no air conditioning, no heat, no electricity, need your cell phones charged, etc. We are equipped with generators if needed. Feel free to come to the Center if the need should arise. Golden Age News From the Desk of... Augie Agostini The September 22nd trip to the Pines Dinner Theater to see the Honky Tonk Angels, a comedy skit along with 30 country tunes, has available seats and payment is due at the August meeting. The next two day-trips are to the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse and the Stony Hill Inn. Both of these shows are very popular if you haven t signed up you might not be able to attend. However, don t hesitate to put your name on the wait list as we always have some cancellations. Our June trip to Branford, Connecticut for our boat tour of Thimble Island went well. It seems everyone I talked with enjoyed the boat ride and the food at the USS Chowder Pot III was great. Your executive committee will look into a possible boat ride next year depending on what is being offered. Need minor repairs performed in your home? Bergen Volunteer Center offers such a service called Chore Service. Some repairs include: minor plumbing, minor electrical, weatherization, repair door locks, install smoke alarms, and grab bars in bath areas. See the flyer located on our Bulletin Board for more details. There are also hand-outs located in our dining room. Take advantage of this FREE service Something to think about... When life becomes too much to stand...kneel! Pray for our Country and the men and women who serve it! 2
