CONNECTION Vol. 9 No. 8 August 2006 PURE PLATINUM! 30 YEARS WITH DEBBIE Surprised!! Front Row L to R: Ann Morrow AUM, Janie Workman, Jessie McGee, Canita Sullivan, Drucilla Goodman RGM, Back L to R: Landis Moore, Mena Shaker SS, Crystal Monroe SS, Sebastian Zhang, Dallas Beal Hi Team, Please join me in congratulating Drucilla Goodman, Ann Morrow, Mena Shaker, Crystal Monroe and the entire team located on Woodruff Road in Greenville, South Carolina for earning their second consecutive PLATINUM RATING, a 97, on their unannounced CER evaluation!! (In February they had a 96!) This team is passionate about making sure all aspects of the business are maintained each and every day for their customers. Dorothy McDowell is the prep/buffet person at this location and she is truly amazing. Dorothy was scheduled to be off at 4:00p.m; she stayed well past 6:00p.m. making sure the store had enough prep to sustain them thru the dinner rush. The entire time Dorothy was there she was smiling and working very hard. She is a true asset to this store. Marcus Jones and Dallas Beal were steadily cooking picture perfect chicken and Marcus keeps the kitchen spotless. Jeanie Workman was running the Front counter and making sure Customer Mania was alive and well with every guest she encountered. This team is an asset to our brand, thank you Team Woodruff Rd. for all you do each and every day!!! Teresa Mills, Champs and Recognition Specialist For most of last week, and more, people at the JRN office in Columbia have been conniving to surprise Accounting Supervisor Debbie Follis. August 23 rd was her 30 th Anniversary with JRN and everyone wanted to show their appreciation by embarrassing her as much as they could get away with. Debbie does so much it was impossible to show our true appreciation. THANK YOU DEBBIE! More on page 5 TRAVELERS RESTED AND READY Frank Frattarelli, Area Manager It took 112 days from knock down to opening the doors at Travelers Rest, SC KT. During that time RGM Kenny Cannon and his assistants Annie Perry and Brian Adair along with shift supervisors Denise Shelton, Sharon Cagle and Michael Buchanan, did a great job hiring and training their new crew. This, along with a lot of sweat, enabled the opening to go so smoothly. Continued on page 5 column 1

Karen has the awesome support from her entire Management team starting with her AUM, Tracie Littlejohn; her Shift Supervisors, Antwan Mckelvin and Pam Gregory. This team practices Team together, Team apart in every aspect of running the business. Maryann Roberts was taking care of the Buffet today and let me just say it was by far the best looking buffet I have seen. Maryann does not miss one step when it comes to hold times, product quality, and cleanliness of her buffet. Ceil and Anthony were in the back of the house cooking some really awesome looking chicken. Neka and Zakia were the Customer Maniacs during this evaluation and they were a joy to watch as they interacted with every guest in Drive thru as well as the Front Counter. Thank you Team Gaffney for all you do each and every day!!! Teresa Mills, Champs and Recognition Specialist Penny Blevins Employee of the Month Marion, VA HOW TO RECOVER FROM A FALL To Emmet St. Charlottesville, VA I spoke with Ms. North this morning about the incident with her son. Everything s okay. She had a lot of nice things to say about your store. She said they were big KFC fans, and even though there s a KFC in their town of Ruckersville, they always come to Charlottesville because it s so much better. She said it is obvious when you walk into the Ruckersville location that they aren t managed by the same people. She complimented the manager for the way he handled the situation and showed concern for her son. I have mailed her some buffet coupons to be used at your store. Thanks, Martha Sellers DON T KNOCK KILMARNOCK OUR SECOND TRIPLE CROWN!!! Noted in the Liked most, liked least comments, for both, Very Good! Second 100% CHAMPSCheck! JRN CONNECTION August 2006 Vol. 9, No. 8 7 David Neal, JRN VP of Operations, often receives information from people all across JRN that helps give him an idea of what the communities and competition are up to. The articles on this page are examples from Mike Zumbahlen s Area. CHURCH S DOESN T HAVE A PRAYER How about some good news for a change? Debbie s husband is good friends with an area manager for Church s. He just called Debbie and said that Church s has changed their minds about coming to Covington, TN. The big boss drove up to see the town and saw the 10pc and 3 pc for 1.99 on our windows and said they couldn t compete with us at this time and that if they came to town it would be in a new building down by the new Wal-Mart. There was no sense remodeling the old Krystal on the north side of town when all the food places would go south as they rebuild. Church s in Memphis just last week raised their 3pc to 2.69. Gee, that was a good idea to start the 10pc and 3pc before they got here. I will pat my self on the back later. (can t do it anyway, too old to reach) Ruth Davis, Area Manager THE COMPETITIVE EYE (In Jackson, TN) Specials for the two Mrs Winners: 3pc wing and bisc 1.99 3pc dark and bisc 1.99 15 pc meal 7 bisc, 3 lg sides 1 gallon of tea Popeye s: 3 in Jackson and one in south Jackson: 89 cents Tuesday only, 2pc dark no bisc 1.99 2pc dark no bisc 11-2 daily 11 pc mixed no bisc 10.99 Wendell Teague, Area Manager A CRY FOR HELP Thought you guys might get a little chuckle out of what the Austin s Fried Chicken had on their reader board when I went to the bank this morning. It reads EAT MORE CHICKEN AND SAVE A RESTAURANT Maybe it should read Eat more KFC chicken and close us. Regina Blandford, RGM Salem, IL THE SCENE IN MARTIN Our new SuperCenter {Wal-Mart} opens 8/16/06!! This was the last weekend for this Wal-Mart behind us to be open?!? {I believe is what they said}..rumor has it {& they had a HUGE sale this weekend} that Rural King is going to be moving into this building!?! But that has not been confirmed!?! Long John Silvers has begun their remodel {next door}.. they have completed their landscaping {I believe}.. and have begun painting the outside {a yellow..like my office..copycats!!}.. once they complete their outside..{an inside source} They will shut down for about a week to 10 days to remodel their inside!?! New EVERYTHING from what I've been told... Okay..we've had a LOT of factories laying off around us here in Martin... MTD, (manufactures outdoor power equipment) as of Friday, had a HUGE lay off {biggest one they have had in a while..}; it went back all the way to people who had been there 10years or less. I don't believe they are scheduled to come back till maybe November!?! Which that will cause the other factory here, Valley Crate, to end up laying off because they do the crates & pallets for MTD!?! Creative Label next to MTD is closing their doors!?! Date has not been announced.. The mattress factory here in Martin is only working 3 days a week - they are looking for a buyer. If they don't find one, they will also be closing their doors!?! That only leaves - Martin Manufacturing - the sewing factory & Greenbaum - builds tires for ATVS & Mowers - up & running full swing here in Martin currently!! There is another small factory, Arrow Aluminum, that builds doors but I don't even know if they are still open or not {have no connections there}. So things are tight here in Martin right now. The college starts back, I believe, the 22nd of this month, so that will help a little bit! Just thought I would let you know. Angela Jones, RGM, Martin, TN
