Council on Aging Info. The Crawford County Council on Aging recently recognized our Transportation Drivers with a Safe Driving Certificate. To be eligible for recognition, each were required to maintain an accidentfree record for minimum of one year and completed the National Safety Council s Driving Course. Newsletter Donations Donations for the Council on Aging newsletter, Senior Tidings, are always appreciated. The number of newsletters printed monthly has greatly increased over the past year. Box 166 Bucyrus, OH 44820 Dress Warm Cancellation of Congregate Meals During inclement weather In Bucyrus, when Bucyrus City Schools cancel, the congregate meal site located at the Crawford County Council on Aging is also canceled. In Galion, when Galion City Schools cancel, the congregate meal site located at the Galion Golden Age Center is also canceled. We still deliver to our clients in their homes when the congregate sites are closed. Only when the weather is extremely severe do we cancel the home delivered meals. Stay informed regarding closings by listening to the radio or go online to the following: listening to Q92.7 WQEL http://wqel.com/closings/ http://crawfordcountynow.com/closings/ Cold temperatures can lead to frostbite and hypothermia a condition where the body temperature dips too low. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), more than half of hypothermia-related deaths were of people over the age of 65. So, don t let indoor temperatures go too low and dress in layers. Going outside? Wear warm socks, a heavy coat, a warm hat, gloves and scarf. In very cold temperatures, cover all exposed skin. Use a scarf to cover your mouth and protect your lungs. Your body temperature should never dip below 95 degrees if it does get medical assistance immediately. Upcoming Trips & Events Mader House/Cabin at Willow Hollow Trip December 5, 12:45 p.m. Come with us on the bus for some history and shopping. First stop will be the Mader House. We will get a brief tour and history, then shop among the crafts from local artisans and crafters. Next we will travel to the Cabin at Willow Hollow for refreshments and more shopping for local homemade items and handcrafted wood products. Both shops will have an array of holiday decorations for purchase. Call the Center at (419) 562-3050 or stop in to make a reservation. Growing Together Trip- Christmas Play December 6, depart at 8:40 a.m. Meet at the Center to go to Sonshine Daycare to watch the children perform the play Christmas in the Kitchen. This trip is part of the Growing Together program, which is an intergenerational partnership between Sonshine Daycare and the Crawford County Council on Aging that promotes interaction between children and senior citizens. Reservations are required. Cost: Free. Out to Breakfast December 13, 8:45 a.m. Meet at the Center to go to Bucyrus Avita Health System for a delicious and affordable breakfast. Grief Support Group December 12, 3:00 p.m. Everyone has experienced a loss in this life, whether it be the loss of a spouse, a loved one, a job, loss of a pet, or loss of independence-adjusting to the new reality is tough. Alzheimer s Caregiver Support Group December 12, 2:00 p.m. (at the Bucyrus Public Library) This support group will meet at the Bucyrus Public Library every second Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Learn about community resources while building a support system with people who understand. Activities place for caregivers, family, and friends of people with dementia to share information, needs, concerns, and to talk through issues and ways of coping. All ages are welcome. Thanksgiving Dinner On Friday, November 16th the Crawford County Council on Aging hosted a FREE Thanksgiving Dinner for 100 senior citizens. Tickets were available at the Council on Aging until the all 100 tickets were gone. The meal (which included turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, and a roll) was generously provided by Advanced Fiber Technologies. The meal was catered by Special Occasions Catering. Following the meal, Heartland of Bucyrus provided pecan and pumpkin pies. There were also door prizes from Kindred at Home, Norton's Flowers, the Crawford County Council on Aging, and Advanced Fiber Technologies. Chrysalis Advantage Point helped set up and serve the meal. Volunteers from the Council on Aging, Heartland, Special Occasions Catering, and Kindred at Home also helped serve. The Crawford County Council on Aging is very thankful, not only to have been a part of this, but also for every organization that helped make this happen and for the seniors that attended. 10 Crawford County Council on Aging
