The beautiful Monterey peninsula is renowned for its world famous golfing, quaint fishing harbors, rich oceanic culture, but is also home to one of the great wine regions of the world. We ll begin our weekend with our Welcome Reception on Thursday May 1 st at our host hotel, the stunning Quail Lodge resort which sits on 850 pristine acres situated between the majestic Santa Lucia hills and Big Sur. Just minutes from Carmel Village, home to cobbled-stone streets, old-world shops, and fine-dining, Quail Lodge is the perfect setting to launch a fabulous weekend of wine, food and camaraderie! Our Taste of series, which has become one of the highlights of our three-day events features more than 20 artisan winemakers from Monterey s iconic wine region to pour and discuss their wines at the 2014 Taste of Santa Lucia Highlands on Friday. You ll have the opportunity to meet the winemakers and vintners and to sip and savor dozens of their award wines from the nineteen small-production vineyards. Friday evening we ll watch the sun dip into the Pacific Ocean as we sip Champagne from the floor-to-ceiling glass enclosed lounge of the exclusive Monterey Peninsula Country Club. Located inside the gates of Seventeen Mile Drive, MPCC as it s known to their discriminating clientele, following our reception, we move into Grand Dining Room to feast on several courses of locally-inspired dishes all accompanied by the critically acclaimed Roar Wines. Owner and winemaker, Gary Franscioni, of Gary s Vineyard fame, will guide us through his terroir-driven wines Saturday kicks off with the National Young Sommelier Competition where eight of the best and brightest young wine professionals from across the country will come to compete for the coveted title of Best Young Sommelier in America! This year you will be invited to select from our Trio Food and Wine Excursions. From a Tequila Tasting and Seminar that includes lunch at Carmel s (and Chaine member!) Baja Cantina, to a Winemaker Luncheon with Monterey s original garagista winemaker Peter Figge at another Chaîne member restaurant, Grasing s in the heart of downtown Carmel, or you may want to take a Food and Wine Walking Tour of the food emporiums and wine tasting rooms in Carmel Village while learning about the history of the town. Saturday evening be prepared to be dazzled by the creative cuisine of the talented culinary team at Quail Lodge as we hold our Gala Awards Dinner and Ceremony and announce the winner of the 2014 Young Sommelier Competition.
