VOLUNTEER GUIDE

WELCOME TO THE SPOKANE BREWERS FESTIVAL! Spokane Brewers Festival will feature nothing but the best local craft breweries in the region. The Festival will be a craft beer tasting experience like nothing else. With a laid-back attitude and a full complement of award-winning beers, the Spokane Brewers Festival is the ideal event for anyone who loves craft beer! The Festival will reflect the craft essence of Spokane and the surrounding region with this mantra in mind: DRINK LOCAL. This is a prime opportunity to sample and learn about a variety of craft beer styles. There will be live music courtesy of The Inlander, an enormous selection of local food purveyors and don t miss the River City Brewing Root Beer Garden for tasters of all ages! THANK YOU FOR VOLUNTEERING! Without Volunteers hosting a festival like this would not be possible. Please keep in mind you are representing the Spokane Brewers Festival while working. Please be courteous to your fellow Volunteers and the Festival Guests. You will be assigned to a Volunteer Captain for direction; listen to what they have to say! Every aspect of the Spokane Brewers Festival has been designed to create a safe environment for our guests, brewers, vendors, and you: our Volunteers. We have many different positions available for Volunteers including: Beer Pourers Wristbanding Ice Delivery Keg Watchdogs Area Captains We will assign duties depending on your comfort level and background. In exchange for a shift, Volunteers will receive: Spokane Brewers Festival Volunteer T-Shirt Festival tasting mug 15 Tokens to be used for tastings outside your Volunteer shift Tote bag with snacks and bottled water The privilege to say you were part of the First Annual Spokane Brewers Festival! BONUS OPPORTUNITY : If you sign up for the first shift on Friday and last shift on Saturday, you will ALSO receive a Spokane Brewers Festival Collectible Pint Glass!

FESTIVAL OVERVIEW Breweries With approximately 30 plus breweries taking part in the Festival, there will be ample opportunity for Guests to enjoy a huge selection of locally crafted beers and ciders. Each of them brings their own individuality and flavors to be enjoyed by all. Take the time to look over the Festival Guide for your own information and to help our Guests find their way around. Tasting Mugs The Festival Tasting Mugs are the key to our operation! We use a 12oz plastic tasting mug with the Spokane Brewers Festival logo and a 2oz sample pour for one token or 10oz full pour for five tokens. There are no other pours! Mugs are available for sale for $7.00 at our sales booths at both east and west entrances to the Festival. Due to Washington State Liquor Board regulations we are only allowed to serve beer in our festival plastic mugs. The Fill Line Spokane Brewers Festival cups are not marked with fill lines. Close attention MUST be paid while pouring the beer. The lowest part of the handle will be the 2oz pour line and the bottom of the top part of the handle will be the 10oz pour line.

Tokens We only accept Spokane Brewers Festival tokens. They are made of wood and have the Spokane Brewers Festival logo printed on them. Tokens MUST be used for all beer transactions. Volunteers cannot accept cash for beers. Tokens are $1.00 each and represent a 2oz sample pour. If patrons run out of tokens, please direct them to the designated token purchase locations which are located at each of the festival entrances. All Festival staff, vendors and performers are required to use tokens to sample beer. No one should be given any beer without paying with a token. River City Root Beer Garden Spokane Brewers Festival will feature an area for minors and designated drivers. Guests are encouraged to attend the River City Root Beer Garden, in which complimentary tastes of root beer made exclusively by River City Brewing will be served for all minors and designated drivers. Other Festival guests may taste using their mugs and tokens. Local Food We have endeavored to bring aboard a variety of local food options to the Festival. All vendors will be located at the north sidewalk of the Arena property and have offerings available for less than $10 a plate. Music We have partnered with The Inlander to provide local artists playing a variety of folk, rock and blues all over the weekend. These musicians will be located near the food vendors at the north sidewalk and should add a great vibe to the festivities. Restrooms Located to the west in Lot A close (but not too close) to the Festival grounds.

Rinse Stations Water stations to rinse out mugs will be located in and around the Festival in various locations. Dasani Water Stations Festival attendance can be thirsty work. Water coolers for hydration needs are sponsored by Dasani water and can be found all over the Festival. Parking Unfortunately, there is no free parking on site for volunteers. Volunteers may park on site or off site at their own expense. Arena parking is either $6 or $10 depending on lot location. We encourage volunteers to bike or take public transportation to the festival. Harassment The Spokane Brewers Festival is meant to be an enjoyable experience for all participants, volunteers and staff included. If someone is being obnoxious you have no obligation to serve them. Please tell your Captain about the problem.

FESTIVAL CODE OF CONDUCT Please remember to show up ON TIME and ready to go at Volunteer check-in at the Northwest VIP Entrance of the Spokane Arena. You will be given your tote bag with Volunteer t-shirt, snacks and water to use for your shift when you check in. Appearance is important! Come to your shift fresh and ready to go. If you plan on attending the Festival as a Guest later, do NOT get a wristband for tasting before your shift. Plan ahead for your tasting time over the weekend so that it does not interfere with your shift. Leave personal items at home! If you do bring them, be prepared to have bags and backpacks searched upon entry. Ensure that our customers avoid excessive consumption of alcohol. We want everyone to have a great time and get home safely. Establish a positive atmosphere, always be helpful and informative, avoid confrontations, and keep your booth or work space clean and organized. Listen to your Volunteer Captain! Their direction is key to a solid Festival time! Take care of yourself. Be sure to dress comfortably, but neatly, and wear good shoes. Please drink plenty of water provided for free by the festival. Take care of your colleagues and be a good neighbor. Help out brewers and fellow volunteers when needed. It s important that you be alert to any potential safety issues and notify your Captain immediately.

VOLUNTEER GENERAL RULES To serve beer you MUST be 21 or over and have proof of MAST (Mandatory Alcohol Server Training) Permit. Please bring proof of training and proof of ID to Volunteer check-in. To pour beer you MUST be 21 years of age or older. Please bring proof of ID to Volunteer check-in. Check-in at the Volunteer Check-In area at the Northwest VIP Entrance to the Arena to receive your Volunteer assignment and tote bag. Put on your Volunteer t-shirt and name tag so that it is clearly visible. Each Volunteer answers to a Volunteer Captain who is responsible for managing the Volunteers. After check-in and orientation, head straight to your assigned location. If pouring beer, you will be joined by a staff member that will take tokens and give beer to the Guests. Familiarize yourself with the area and what needs to be done prior to opening to the public. For kegged beer, make sure the keg is iced down, tapped and pouring properly. If there is any problem with the setup please notify your Captain immediately or flag down a crew member. Guests MUST have a Festival tasting mug, token AND wristband to obtain beer. There are no exceptions to this. No Wristband = No Alcohol. All Festival guests will have their ID checked by Staff Pro security upon entry at the Festival entrances and will receive a colored wristband. Do not serve anyone without a wristband. Guests will ask for the beer they with to taste and give the appropriate tokens to the staff member. Pour Guests a 2oz taste of beer (1 token) or 10oz full pour (5 tokens) into a Festival plastic mug only. Pourers give the beer to the staff member, not the Guest. If you see Guests drinking in other glassware ask them to dump it out in front of you. Overpouring is against Festival rules. Volunteers are held accountable if they are serving beer. If you over serve, you will be fined by the Washington State Liquor Control Board. Do not drink beer before or during your shift. If you need a break, contact your Volunteer Captain. Please be respectful of their time, other Volunteers may need bathroom breaks. If your keg runs out, tell your Captain or flag down one of the Keg Deliverers. They will get a new keg tapped for you as soon as possible or investigate the pouring problem. Please do not adjusts CO2 regulators yourself! At the end of your session, clean up your station. It needs to be presentable with all trash removed and the appearance straightened up. At the end of the evening

session, place the trash and recycling in front of the booth. You will be given instructions on the disposal of all liquid: water, ice, old beer. A high level of professionalism is required and knowledge of beers being served is welcomed. If you will be staying immediately following your shift, change out of your volunteer shirt, take your name badge off and return to Volunteer check-in to receive your tasting tokens. We will check your ID and wristband you at Volunteer check-in. Please be sure to have your ID with you at all times when volunteering or attending the festival. THANK YOU! Without your help, we could not hope to host this Festival here at the Arena. We hope to have you onboard for many, many years to come! Have a GREAT time and enjoy yourselves and the festivities! PROST!
