BIOGRAPHIES

Hubert de Boüard de Laforest Born in 1956 in Saint-Emilion, Hubert de Boüard de Laforest grew up at Château Angélus, where life was organised around work in the vineyards and cellar. Very early, he decided he would follow in the footsteps of the six generations, who had gone before him on the estate. Having obtained his degree from the Bordeaux Faculty of Oenology and proud of having studied under Emile Peynaud, he left Saint-Emilion for a while to explore other winegrowing areas and techniques and thereby enrich his own ideas. When he returned to the family property in 1980, he strengthened this knowledge by taking part in all vineyard and cellar tasks until he took over the management of Angélus in 1985. His previous experiences, especially in Burgundy, and his own vision led him to put vine husbandry and wine making techniques into practice hitherto unknown in Saint-Emilion. In the same year, he bought Château de Francs in the Côtes de Francs appellation area. From pioneering winegrower to becoming a man in the public eye was just a logical step to take for Hubert de Boüard to follow his convictions, by taking an active role in the life of the appellation and Bordeaux : - Vice-President of the Saint-Emilion Wine Growers Union from 1991 to 1999 - Vice-President of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux and President of the Association of Grands Crus Classés from 1990 to 1996 - President of the Saint-Emilion Wine Growers Union from 1999 to 2008; Chairman of the INAO regional committee and member of the national committee - Grand Master of the Grand Conseil du Vin de Bordeaux from 2013 to 2016 - First Jurat of the Saint-Emilion Jurade since 2011. After years of relentless hard work in technical fields and in communication and promotion, Hubert de Boüard s efforts were rewarded in 1996 when Château Angélus was given the rank it deserved of Premier Grand Cru Classé, and again in 2012, when it was awarded the distinction of Premier Grand Cru Classé A. His passion for winegrowing incited him to explore other winegrowing areas. From 1997 to 2003, he became consultant for the Massaya winery in Lebanon. In 1998, he bought La Fleur de Boüard in Lalande de Pomerol and later the Anwilka estate in South Africa. Today, his consultancy has developed very widely in France, in Saint-Emilion, Pomerol and Medoc, as well as in Spain, Portugal, Thailand, Lebanon and South Africa. Hubert de Boüard is knight of the National Order of Merit and knight of the Legion of Honour.

Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal «We are nothing more than trustees of history that precedes us and will survive us. Our role therefore is to ensure that this history is long-lasting in the best conditions that we are able to achieve.» Born in 1982 in Bordeaux, Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal grew up in Saint-Emilion. A graduate of Bordeaux University s Economics Department and of the European Business School ESCP-EAP, she started her career in private banking in London at UBS, where she stayed until 2009, before joining the prestigious Swiss bank Pictet to continue in the field of private asset management. Already at that time she regularly organised tastings and dinners in London focusing on Château Angélus in answer to frequent requests from informed enthusiasts especially from the world of finance as well as from British wine merchants and starred restaurants. In 2009, Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal became member of Angélus supervisory board, thereby becoming directly involved in managing the estate. As a member of the eighth generation of the Boüard de Laforest family, she has committed to maintaining the level of excellence of the property s wines and image worldwide and takes an active role in promoting Angélus. In 2011, she earned the internationally acclaimed Advanced Certificate from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust in London. This programme extended her knowledge of wine and introduced her more in detail to the other wine growing regions of the world. At the beginning of 2012, her father Hubert de Boüard de Laforest and her uncle Jean-Bernard Grenié asked her to join them and to manage Angélus. She therefore left Pictet and henceforward spends all her time in charge of her family s business activities as General Manager of Angélus. In 2013, she carried out the acquisition of the Saint- Emilion restaurant Logis de la Cadène and established a new team there managed by the young talented chef Alexandre Baumard.

Jean-Bernard Grenié Jean-Bernard Grenié was born on 17th May 1950 in Bordeaux. He married Hélène de Boüard de Laforest and has had three children with her: Pierre, Thierry and Paul-Louis. Jean-Bernard is a trained economist, graduating from Bordeaux University s Law and Economic Sciences Department in1972. He went on to study for the Diploma of the French Institute of Business Administration (I.A.E.), which he obtained in Bordeaux in 1973. He volunteered for French National Service Cooperation in Mauritania from 1975 to 1977. In 1984, he entered the world of wine by working for a Libourne merchants. He joined Angélus in 1987 and is a member of the Directorate. In 2006, he took charge of Château Daugay with his wife Hélène de Boüard-Grenié.

Thierry Grenié de Boüard Born in 1987 in Libourne, Thierry Grenié de Boüard grew up in Saint-Emilion on the family estate. He graduated in international business from the University of Hull in the UK and gained a Masters in management from EBS at the University of Wiesbaden in Germany and a Masters II in marketing from Kedge School in Bordeaux. His professional career then led him from Berry Bros in UK to McWilliam s Wines Group in Australia, where he spent almost a year before joining Hawesko in Germany. His last job was as a wine purchaser in Berlin for Wine in Black, one of the most active web-based players in the industry. Having studied management and marketing in UK, Australia and Germany, Thierry Grenié-de Boüard continued to occupy international positions in the wine trade. At the same time, he also took part in the winemaking at Château Angélus and Klein Constantia. Thierry Grenié de Boüard, Deputy General Manager, member of the supervisory board of Angélus, he now devotes his whole time to family business operations. www.angelus.com angelus@angelus.com
