The time tested central auction system has coffee auctions conducted every Thursday of the week throughout the year. This is a market where coffee is supplied by the Unions, Rural cooperatives, and estates and bought through competitive bidding by the licensed green coffee exporters. The Moshi Coffee Exchange is under the management of the Tanzania Coffee Board (TCB). Coffee can also be sourced through Direct Export window. This is a market where coffee is supplied directly to the buyer/consumer by Unions, Rural cooperatives, and estates without going through the Auction. Director General of Tanzania Coffee Board, Primus Kimaryo Demonstrating the Auction at the Coffee Exchange in Moshi, Kilimanjaro. 7

QUALITY ASSURANCE Coffee quality and safety has been an issue of great concern to coffee producers and consumers all over the world. The Board as the regulatory authority puts coffee quality at the center of its mandate. Every coffee dealer is by law required to forward a coffee sample for every lot handled for quality analysis and arbitration in case of dispute. Growers through the association come to the Board for quality analysis of their coffee samples before making their marketing decisions. After analyzing the quality for a particular lot for trade, the board issues a Quality Certificate to guarantee the buyer on the quality of coffee bought.
