Listrac-Médoc AOC One of prestigious AOC in Médoc

A Great Terroir AOC Listrac-Médoc: One of the six city appellations in the Medoc, appellations known for the quality of their wines : Saint-Estèphe (1214 hectares) Pauillac (1217 hectares) Saint-Julien (919 hectares) Listrac-Médoc (570 hectares) Moulis en Médoc (610 hectares) Margaux (1488 hectares)

A Great Terroir AOC Listrac-Médoc: An outstanding location on the top of the Medoc : - Château Fo réaud s vineyard culminates at 43 meters, the highest point in the Medoc. - The wind is drying the vines after the rains, increasing the quality of the grapes. - The vineyard is preserved from the frost.

A Great Terroir AOC Listrac-Médoc: Two types of soil : - Clay and limestone - Deep Gravel on limestone The Limestone has a very important role in the quality of the wines from Listrac : it is to maintain the good amount of water in the soils, and to release it for the vines when it is necessary. The limestone combined with clay is perfect for Listra s Merlots, giving them powerful aromas. Combined with deep gravels, it is perfect for Cabernet-Sauvignon, in order to obtain a perfect maturity, just the right amount of tanins for the structure and to keep the freshness of the fruit.

Great Wines AOC Listrac-Médoc: Nose : The wines from Listrac are characterized on the nose by a beautiful freshness of the fruit. Mouth : One the palate a frank attack precedes an round and silky texture. The finish is the expression of the blend of the two main varieties : generosity of Merlot and power of Cabernet-Sauvignon.

Château Fonréaud Léo CHANFREAU History : The name Fonréaud that used to e spelt Fo t Reaux ea s Royal pri g. According to the legend, a king of England stopped on this spot in the XIIth century to quench his thirst at a spring that he found there. But perhaps the name is owed simply to the existence of a pleasant cold-water spring in the park. Henri Le Blanc de Mauvesin built the chateau in 1855 according to plans drawn by the architect Garros. It will charm you by the elegance of its architecture. Leo Chanfreau bought the estate in 1962. Unfortunately, Léo died before his father Marcel, in an accident on the estate in 1970. He had one son, Jean, and three daughters, Elza, Katherine and Caroline. Marcel CHANFREAU

Château Fonréaud History : - Marcel, continued to manage Chateau Fonréaud (and Chateau Lestage) until his death in 1980. - In 1980, Jean, 23, became the new manager. He did just finish his studies and, with his mother Jacqueline, they decided to put all their energy in the development of the estates. Jean CHANFREAU and his mother Jacqueline

Château Fonréaud History : With Jean, it is the beginning of a new era, the facilities are fully renewed, and the focus is putted on the quality of the wines. As an engineer, is his very keen on technic and always in the search of excellence in both vine growing and wine making.

Château Fonréaud A Family Affair : Today, Jean is working with his wife, Marie-Hélène, his sister Caroline and his two sons Guillaume and Loïc. From the left to the right : Caroline, Loïc, Marie-Hélène, Jean and Guillaume

Château Fonréaud The vineyard : Château Fo réaud s vineyard dates back to Gallo-Roman times. Located on the top of the Medoc, from it, we can see both churches of Listrac and Moulis and, in clear weather, the banks of the Gironde. Types of soil : Gravelly Pyrenean soil on a limestone and clavey-limestone subsoil. The different types of soils are highlighted by the appropriate choice of grape varieties and rootstocks, thus contributing to the development of a wine with a rich and varied organoleptic potential. The summit of the hillsides, consisting of gravel is planted with cabernet sauvignon while the slopes and low points rich in clay and limestone provide the merlot optimal production conditions.

Château Fonréaud The vineyard : 42 hectares in a single block The traditional Médoc grape varieties appear in the following proportions: Cabernet Sauvignon: 52% Merlot: 44% Petit Verdot: 4%

Château Fonréaud Vine growing practices : The vines are cultivated according to sustainable growing practices, respecting both the plant and its environment. Vine care constantly ensures that a balance is maintained between the plant and its environment in view of achieving : well-aired foliage regular load of grapes, which gradually ripen in the sunshine. Depending on their nature, the parcels are ploughed or grassed over between the rows. Château Fo réaud s wines are certified TERRA VITIS since the vintage 2015.

Château Fonréaud Winemaking process: A strict selection of the parcels and the grapes takes place during the harvest. After a gentle crushing and destemming of the grapes, the must is put into smallthermoregulated vats ensuring that the fermentations are perfectly controlled, bringing out the expression, the richness and the nuances of each plot.

Château Fonréaud Winemaking process: The vatting period lasts 20 to 25 days depending on the vintage. Ageing lasts around 12 months in merrian oak barrels, a 1/3 of which are replaced each year. We then undertake the final blending before bottling at the chateau.

Château Fonréaud Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux & Crus Bourgeois : This magnificent property, beautifully positioned on well-exposed slopes went happily through the XXth century. Classified Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in 1932, this classification has been confirmed in 2003. This privileged location, with its early ripening terroir, offers us tasty wines that age superbly.

Château Fonréaud The wines : The wines from Château Fonréaud are characterized by powerful and complex aromas on the nose, mostly red fruits and well integrated wood notes, cedar and vanilla. On the palate, Château Fonréaud is very dense and round, it offers a lot of black fruits aromas with elegant tanins. It is well balanced with some spices and good acidity on the finish. Ageing potential : depending on the vintage, between 15 and 25 years.

2011 Vintage Press & Ratings Wine Enthusiast Roger Voss : 91 - Spicy new wood flavors dominate this otherwise strongly fruity wine. The tension between the two promises a rich, full and ripe wine for the future. There is enough weight, acidity, blackberry fruit and richness to balance out the wood aging. Give this dense wine until 2018. Roger Voss Janvier 2014 Wine Spectator - James Molesworth - Janvier 2014 Château Fonréaud 2011: 88 Shows good ripeness, with notes of plum sauce and blackberry preserves leading the way, held together by a slightly soft structure. Mocha and tobacco notes chime in on the finish. A forward style. Wine Advocate - Château Fonreaud 2011: 90 Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London. The 2011 Fonreaud urpasses my expectations from barrel. It has a very accomplished, well-defined bouquet with blackberry, cedar and forest floor notes that are focused and absorb the oak with style. The palate is medium-bodied with layers of cedar-infused black fruit and a crisp, earthy finish that is long and satisfying. This is one of the best Cru Bourgeois of the vintage. Tasted September 2013. Wine Journal.com-Neal Martin- Septembre 2013 Decanter - James Lawther - mars 2014. Fragrant vanilla- chocolate nose. Good depth of fruit. Oak is well integrated on the palate. Firm, long finish

2012 Vintage Press & Ratings The Wine Advocate - Neal Martin - Wine Journal : 89/91 Tasted April 2013. The Fonreaud has much better fruit concentration on the nose than its peers: fresh blackberry and raspberry wirh wellintegrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with a freshy supple opening. It is very harmonious and pure, exhibits fine tannins ad is caressing and nicely poised on the finish. I was going to spend my money on one Listrac, it would be this. The Wine Advocate - erobertparker.com - april 2015 - Robert M, Parker, Jr.: 86 A fruity style from Fonréaud, their 2012 is a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. The wine is soft, round, juicy and one of their better examples in this vintage. Dark ruby/purple, with loads of cassis and black cherry, it is earthy, spicy, and best drunk over the next 5-6 years. Drink: 2015-2021 Wine Enthusiast - January 2015: 90 Fo réaud s vineyard is on the highest point in the Médoc (all of 120 feet), at the southern end of the Listrac appellation. This wine, as often with this property, has started out rugged and solid with firm dry tannins. The fruit though is all there and will show with increasing intensity over the next few years. Drink this powerful wine from 2018. Wine Spectator - James Molesworth - April 2013 - Top value: 89 points Fresh and quick, offering plum and cherry pit notes lined with singed alder and bay. Not big, but focused. Jancis Robinson.com-April 2013-16 Drink: 2019-2027 Pale crimson at the rim. Some sweet oak on the nose and the fruit at least is fresh and follows through but is a little overwhelmed by oak. Some vitality. Decanter.com - April 2013 - Taster: Steven Spurrier - 15.75/20pts - Chateau Fonréaud 2012 Good depth of fruit, meaty quite robust flavours, ripe tannins. Drink: 2015-2024

2013 Vintage Press & Ratings Jancis Robinson.com 16,5 Richard Hemming 0ctober 2015 - Drink 2015/2019 Lovely nose that is already showing signs of maturity - with the black fruit comes cedar, beef stock and iron. Chewy tannin, fine balance and good concentration. Loads to enjoy here, but this lady's not for keeping. (RH) Decanter.com-April 2014 - Taster: Steven Spurrier Listrac CB 15.75/20pts Nicely extracted blackcurrant fruit, good middle ripeness, quite firm finish. Drink: 2017-2022 Wine Enthusiast - January 2016: 90 Editors joice Fonréaud's vineyard is on the highest point of the Médoc (all of 120 feet). This vintage shows a smooth, ripe wine full of juicy black fruits. It's not dense, and the fruitiness will let it age relatively quickly. Drink this attractive wine from 2018.

2014 Vintage Press & Ratings Wine Advocate Neal Martin - Château Fonreaud 2014 : 90 The 2014 Fonreaud has a tightly wound bouquet with well defined red berry fruit mixed with cedar and tobacco, although it needs a couple of years to fully unwind. The palate is mediumbodied with supple tannin and well judged acidity. This lacquers the mouth with tannin, though it does not feel overbearing and it has plenty of stuffing on the finish. Give this some bottle age and you'll have a great Cru Bourgeois/Listrac. Tasted September 2016. Wine Enthusiast - Roger Voss 2/1/2017 - Château Fonreaud 2014 : 92 This is a rich stylish wine from the Chanfreau family. It has fine tannins and signs of wood aging, both of which will meld into the juicy black-currant fruits. It has a predominance of Cabernet Sauvignon that gives the wine its structure and aging potential. The aftertaste is ripe and still crisp, still young. Drink from 2020 Jancis Robinson : 16,5 Crimson not quite out to the rim. Minerally nose. Sweet start and plush texture. Just a little simple but quite satisfyingly savoury. Good oak handling. Winning ripe fruit. Acidity perceptible. Drink 2020-2027 Le Pan - Spring 2015 - Jeannie Cho Lee, MW 89-91-Polished and quite sophisticated with lifted flavors of ripe red currant, cherry and sweet spices. Expressive and well composed with freshness and focused acidity. A well-crafted red with a fairly long finish. Andrew Caillars, MW-avril 2015-95 points - Medium deep colour. Lead pencil/ graphite, roasted chestnut espresso aromas matched with redcurrant and black fruits. Excellent aromatic complexity. Bouyant and subtle with beautiful cassis, blackcurrant pastille flavours, espresso roasted chestnut oak and plentiful boney tannins. Finishes firm with an elegant chalky/ inky plume. Superb line and length. James Suckling 90 points Ripe yet fresh, showing a lot of cassis fruit and bright acidity. Medium-bodied with excellent balance and good length. Drink now or hold. Publish Date: Tuesday, February 14, 2017

2015 Vintage Press & Ratings Wine Advocate Neal Martin - Château Fonreaud 2014 : 92 Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois annual tasting, the 2015 Fonreaud offers impressive, engaging blackberry and briary scents on the nose, well defined and focused with just a slight reduction that works in its favor. The palate is medium-bodied with firm but fine tannin, plenty of spicetinged black fruit mixed with graphite and cedar toward the structured finish. I admire the length of this Listrac and I suspect it will give many years of pleasure. Sign me up! Tasted September 2017. Vinous Neal Martin Mars 2018 : 92 The 2015 Fonréaud is a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot cropped at 38Hl/Ha. It has a clean and fresh raspberry coulis, cranberry and strawberry scented bouquet with cedar and tobacco scents interwoven. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, good depth, nicely structured but not unapproachable. It feels long and tender in the mouth with a crisp saline finish. This Listrac is just as good as it was at last year's Cru Bourgeois tasting. Tasted at the Oenoconseil tasting room in Bordeaux. Wine Enthusiast - Roger Voss 4/1/2018 - Château Fonreaud 2015 : 91 The Chanfreau family continues its skilled course with this ripe, full and rich wine. Tannins from both the fruit and wood are prominent, giving a dry character to this youthful wine. However, the rich black-currant fruit is developing well. This wine has a long-term future. Drink from 2025 James Suckling 90 points Ripe red fruits, delicate herbal notes and serious dry tannins make this a striking Listrac. If the finish had more to give, this would rate more highly. Drink or hold. Publish Date: Saturday, February 3, 2018 Jancis Robinson : 16,5

2016 Vintage Press & Ratings Wine Advocate Neal Martin 28 th April 2017 - Château Fonreaud 2016 : 91-93 The 2016 Fonreaud is certainly a Listrac that is worth checking out. The bouquet is very well defined with supremely well-integrated oak that allows the terroir to show through. There is a subtle Margaux-like floral scent coming through. The palate is very well balanced with fine tannins and a very good backbone. This Fonreaud is one of the most precise that I have tasted and there is tangible tension all the way through to the refined finish. This Listrac has produced some very fine wines recently and this 2016 could be the best yet. Wine Enthusiast - Roger Voss 4/1/2017 - Château Fonreaud 2016 : 91-93 This wine comes from one of the best-known and most reliable estates in Listrac. This is juicy, with strong wood notes that are in balance with the fine fruit. Hold until 2025 James Suckling 91-92 A juicy red with blackberry, blueberry and licorice character. Medium body and firm tannins. Lovely racy nature to this. Publish Date: Tuesday, April 4, 2017 Jancis Robinson : 17 Jeannie Cho Lee : 91

2017 Vintage Press & Ratings Wine Enthusiast - Roger Voss 4/1/2018 - Château Fonreaud 2017 : 91-93 This estate is situated at the highest point in the Médoc, yielding fine, ripe wines. The wood is showing strongly, but so is the fruit. That makes for a ripe, full wine with plenty of blackberry flavors that will age well. Drink from 2023 Wine Advocate Lisa Perrotti-Brown 27 th April 2018 - Château Fonreaud 2017 : 85-87 The 2017 Fonreaud is deep garnet-purple in color and scented of crushed black cherries, mulberries and cigar box with a waft of mossy bark. The palate is soft, juicy and innocuous with nice harmony. Vinous Neal Martin May 2018 : 87-89 The 2017 Fonréaud is a Listrac estate that was less affected by the frost than its neighbors. It has a nicely proportioned bouquet with blackberry, briary and cedar scents that gently unfold in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a little oaky at the moment but there is decent black fruit laced with cedar and tobacco towards the finish. James Suckling 88-89 A juicy red with plum and light chocolate character. Medium body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. Publish Date: Thursday, April 5, 2018 Jancis Robinson : 16
