Day 6: Grapes of Puglia Puglia has finally earned worldwide recognition for its exceptional wines. The hot Mediterranean climate, persistent sunshine and sea breezes make for a near-perfect environment for viticulture. We ll be tasting some of the finest locally produced and internationally known wines, surrounded by 3,000 olive trees and 200 hectares of vineyards in the magnificent sixteenth century Castello. The tour of the winery includes access to grape preparation, fermentation and bottling areas before a guided tasting. You ll also try some traditional local snacks in the enchanting castle s Wine Museum which houses the tools and tells the historic tale of local wine production dating back to the mid-twentieth century, through a photo exhibition which documents the transition from Caucasus to Mediterranean life. We ll continue the day tasting some traditional local homemade food in a charm- ing trattoria. Sagne 'ncannulate (fresh pasta from durum wheat) and an excellent local wine, coffee and typical pasticciotto (pastry filled with custard) are all on the menu.
