Ocala Bull Sale Changes Date & Adds Quality Replacement Heifers The 59 th Annual Ocala Bull Sale will be held at noon on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion in Ocala. Quality replacement Heifers will also be offered. Buyers are welcome to preview the animals Monday through Wednesday (until sale time). Grading will take place beginning at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 27. All bulls are evaluated on weight, body condition, conformation, scrotal circumference and EPD s then assigned a grade from A+ to C by a committee of qualified cattle producers. Bulls that do not score a C grade or higher are culled from the sale. All cattle entered in the Heifer Sale will be pre-screened on the farm by a designated screener. Weaned open heifers (10-14 months), bred yearlings and bred two year olds (only exposed once in a defined breeding season) will be offered. After arrival at the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion, but prior Wednesday s sale all heifers will be evaluated for: temperament, obvious physical defects and minimum weight. Heifers must be from a single ranch (minimum of three head per ranch) and are recommended to be polled or dehorned (and healed). Additional requirements include: uniform lots by breed type, age color and pregnancy status. Suggested age and minimum weight: Open Heifers 10 14 months (650+ lbs.); Bred Female: 24-36 months (800+ lbs.). Maximum age is 36 months. If you are interested in consigning heifers, please contact one of the committee members (see our ad in this magazine for phone numbers). 58 th Annual Ocala Bull Sale Report Fifty-seven bulls representing eight breeds sold for an overall average of $3,088 at the 58 th Annual Ocala Bull Sale sponsored by the Marion County Cattlemen s Association. This year s January sale topper lot #29 an (A-) graded Brangus bull consigned by Little Creek Farms of Alachua, FL sold for $5,900. Lot #65, an (A-) graded Polled Hereford bull consigned by Greenview Polled Herefords of Screven, GA received a price of $4,600. Both Lot #12 a (B-) graded Angus consigned by Joe Johnson of Ocala, FL and Lot #63 an (A-) graded Polled Hereford offered by Greenview Polled Herefords received a price of $4,300 each. Two Braford bulls Lots #22 (A) & #23 (A-) offered by the Greenview Polled Hereford Farms consignment sold for $4,200 each. Three other bulls, Lot #56 an (A-) Charolais from Triple B Charolais, Lebanon, TN and Lots #64 & #66

59 th Annual Ocala Bull Sale & Select Heifers Results Fifty-five bulls representing six breeds sold for an overall average of $4,385 at the 59 th Annual Ocala Bull Sale sponsored by the Marion County Cattlemen s Association. Of the fifty-five bulls offered, two sold for more than $6,000 and fourteen head sold for more than $5,000 each. This year s October sale topper was lot #48 an (A-) graded Charolais bull consigned by Bill Baird s Triple B Charolais of Lebanon, TN which sold for $6,200. The second high price bull, lot #49 another (A-) graded Charolais out of the Triple B consignment sold for $6,100. Three other (A-) graded bulls, lot #20 and lot #22 Brafords from Jonny Harris Greenview Polled Hereford Farms, Screven, GA offerings as well as lot #50 a Charolais from Triple B Farms sold for $5,800 each. Lot #42 an (A-) Charolais and lot #46 an (A) graded Charolais both from Mike Watson s Little W Farm of Lebanon, TN brought a price of $5,600 each. One bull, lot #15 an (A-) Angus consigned by Bruce Thomas The Thomas Six Ranch of Branford, FL received a price of $5,500. Lot #64 an (A) Polled Hereford from Greenview Polled Herefords and lot #23 an (A) graded Brahman of Adrian Lamb s L2 Ranch of Branford, FL brought $5,400 each. Lot #10 an (A) graded Angus offered by Phil Goodson s Springfield Angus of Louisburg, NC sold for $5,300. Lot # 21 an (A-) Braford from the Greenview Polled Hereford consignment brought $5,200. The following three bulls sold for a price of $5,100 each: lot #13 an (A) Angus offered by Springfield Angus, lot #65 an (A-) Greenview Polled Hereford and lot #26 an (A-) Brahman offered by Keith Register s Sawmill of Lake Panasoffkee, FL. One other (A) graded Angus bull lot #11 from Springfield Angus received a price of $5,000. Two (A-) graded bulls, lot #12 a Springfield Angus and #51 a Triple B Charolais sold for $4,900 each. Four bulls, lot #59 a (B+) Polled Hereford from Norris Fowler s Fowken Farm of Jonesville, SC., lot #66 an (A-) Greenview Polled Hereford, lot #37 a (B+) Charolais from James Owens Laneland Farms of Lebanon, TN. and lot #40 an (A) Little W Farm Charolais sold for $4,500 each. The following bulls brought a price of $4,400 each: lot # 2 (B-) Angus offer by Joe Johnson of Ocala, FL., lot #25 an (A-) Brahman from the L2 Ranch consignment as well as lots #45 and #47 both (A) graded Little W Farm Charolais. Lot #67 an (A-) graded Greenview Polled Hereford sold for $4,300. Lot #6 a (B-) Angus offered by Ken Currie s Rose Myrtle Farm, Bishopville, SC and lot #63 an (A-) Greenview Polled Hereford sold for $4,200 each. Lot #7, a (B-) Rose Myrtle

Nineteen A- graded bulls sold for an average price of $4,995. Twelve B+ bulls sold for an average price of $3,917, six B grade bulls averaged $3,433 and six B- graded bulls averaged $3,833. Two C+ bulls averaged $3,550 and one C grade bull sold for $3,500.
