COMSTRAT 310 Semester-Long Project Part Three WEB METRICS & SEO SETUP INSTRUCTIONS Web Metrics Setup Integrating Google Analytics into your mock company website: Wix 1. Log in to your Wix account > select Edit site 2. Go to your Homepage > HOLD go to Step 3 but don t close the tab in your browser 3. Open a new browser tab and go to www.google.com/analytics 4. Click "SIGN IN" in the top right > choose Analytics at the top of the pull-down menu 5. Log in to your TEAM GMAIL account. 6. Click the SIGN UP button - you will now be on the New Account page 7. Type in your name for Account Name 8. Type in the name of your mock company 9. Copy/paste your mock company website URL into the field (remove HTTP ) 10. Select an industry from the pulldown menu - or select "other" if none of the ones listed are appropriate for your site 11. Set time zone. Leave the boxes checked and click Get Tracking ID button 12. Accept the terms of service 13. You are now on the Administration page within Property and Tracking Code 14. On the right side, you will see your Tracking ID at the top and "Website Tracking" with a Global Site Tag (gtag.js) multi-line code in a box below it. Select all of the Global Site Tag content and copy (right click or CTRL>C) 15. Switch over to the tab where Wix/Homepage > choose Add (+) > More > HTML code (green button at the top) 16. Click "Enter Code" button with the widget that has been added to the page 17. Paste the Global Site Tag content you copied earlier from Website Tracking code from Google Analytics 18. Click Update Weebly 1. Log in to your Weebly account > edit your site 2. Go to the Settings pull-down menu > select SEO 3. Click on SEO in the left column > HOLD go to Step 4 but don t close the tab in your browser 4. Open a new browser tab and go to www.google.com/analytics 5. 19. Resize the box and drag it in your homepage footer. Make sure the box is clicked for "show on every page" 20. Still, in Wix click Save > Publish 21. Switch over to the tab where Google Analytics is open 22. To see your site in the Google Analytics platform. Go to http://www.google.com/analytics/. Click Sign In and assuming you never logged out - your site Dashboard should appear. It will take a couple of days for an activity to show so check again in 48 hours. 19. Search Engine Optimization Setup Note: Refer to the Part 3 template to create the titles, descriptions, and key words for each of your site pages. It is recommended you create your content in that document and then copy/paste the information into your website pages. It will be easier to create your keywords list after you write your page descriptions. There will be duplication of keywords throughout. [see example below] Part One: Site SEO Settings Wix SEO 1. Log in to your Wix account > select Edit site 2. Go to the Site pull-down menu and select SEO 3. Make sure the Allow search engines to include your site in results is in the on position. 4. Save and Publish Part Two: Set Up SEO on Every Page 1. Open your site Editor 2. Go to the Pages pulldown menu select Manage Pages 3. Select your HOME page 4. Within the HOME tab in the Pages menu select the white circle on the far right > select Page SEO 5. Give your page a title ( 5 words) 6. Write a Page Description. Content should summarize topics relevant to the page ( 50 words) 7. Type in 5-10 keywords and comma relevant to the page 8. When you are finished, select DONE 9. Open your next site page, select the white circle on the far right > select Page SEO 10. Give the page a title, description, and keywords Part One: Site SEO Settings Weebly SEO 1. Log in to your Weebly account > select Edit site 2. Go to the Settings pulldown menu > select SEO 3. Give your site a Site Description. For your overall site will be an introduction and overview of your mock company and site (160-180 words) 4. Type in 5-10 keywords and comma relevant to the overall mock company site 5. Click Save Part Two: Set Up SEO on Every Page 1. Open your site Editor 2. Go to Pages > select your HOME page 3. Click on the page icon on the right, select SEO Settings 4. Give your page a title ( 5 words) 5. Write a Page Description. Content should summarize topics relevant to the page ( 50 words) 6. Type in 5-10 keywords and comma relevant to the page 7. When you are finished, select Publish 8. Open your next site page, select the page icon on the far right > select SEO Settings 2
11. Repeat steps 8 and 9 for ALL pages of your site including sub-pages 12. Save and Publish 9. Give the page a title, description, and keywords 10. Repeat steps 13 and 14 for ALL pages of your site including sub-pages 11. Publish Quality Assurance Check of Website Complete quality assurance review of the website using the checklist provided (reference doc: Website setup instructions) 1. Optimization: Verify search engine optimization is set up for the site and on every page. This includes title, description and key terms 2. Design: Check design elements consistency in the brand, quality of images, font and color scheme. Also, check mobile version of your site on a handheld device to ensure all elements look and function properly. 3. Analytics: Verify that Google Analytics (or other metrics) tool are set up and functioning properly 4. Browser Testing: Check the site on all of the main browsers- Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox and that all aspects of the site are functioning. 5.
