NOTICE TO MARINERS The Official Publication of Lakeside Yacht Club 4851 North Marginal Road Cleveland, Ohio 44114 www.lakesideyachtclub.com VOLUME 88, ISSUE 11 NOVEMBER 1, 2018 Dear Friends, As we worked in the cold and rain pulling the boat from the water on Saturday, signifying the close of another summer of sailing, it was easy to remember what a GREAT summer home Lakeside Yacht Club is for all of us. Pulling the boat ends our boating season but it s also the close of my term as Commodore of LYC for the past two years. I would like to say that it has been an honor and a pleasure to have served as your Commodore. I was very lucky to have a great group of Flag officers and Board of Trustee members serving together for the betterment and enjoyment of Lakeside Yacht Club for all the members. This Board and Officers have placed LYC in a great financial as well as a great membership position. It especially important that I thank our General Manager, Larry Orlowski, his time, efforts and knowledge of the members, the staff and the facility keep LYC operating and put us in the position of being the premier yacht club it is today. I also want to say a special thanks to our club and harbor staff and all the work and services that they provide for us throughout the year. In the future, as we transition into a new group of highly capable officers and board members the club remains in good hands and our future is bright, promising and growing. I look forward to seeing all of you at LYC, but sadly no longer hearing from all of you!!!. With kindest personal regards, Commodore Mark Carrabine INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Commodore s Letter 1 Monthly Events 2 Prime Rib Dinner 3 Book Club 4 Change of Watch 6 OSU Game 7 Kid s Holiday Party Member Appreciation November Birthday s 3rd Andrew Welling 4th Jim Penza 5th Cindy Ginsburg Marguerite Walczak Jon Richey 6th Jeff Harcourt 8th Creighton Heyl Stan Roediger Jr. 9th Darlene Meges 10th Anthony Zarlinga Allen Sandy 11th Howard Kaufman Tom Ruff 10 11

T HE OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF LAKESIDE YACHT CLUB PAGE 9 As another year of boating is coming to a close LYC remains a Flourishing club of great food, great friends and a family of members and staff. Historically, the Holiday season brings thoughts of thanks to those who have made our lives better. Each staff member at Lakeside Yacht Club takes pride in the quality of service they provide to you. We ask for your participation in the employee holiday fund we believe that this has been another year in which the staff has done an incredible job of taking extraordinary care of all of us. It is also a time for us to join together and show them our gratitude. Also, as Winston Churchill notably said, We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give It is a thoughtful and private way to give them the thanks they deserve. We would like to distribute these funds during the week before Christmas, therefore please return them by December 14th, 2018. There have been many strides forward and improvements! It has been a remarkable year at the club in many ways: Twenty-six new members have joined the LYC family We paved the parking lot Installed new landscaping at the point and gashouse building Wallpapered the dining room, painted the bar and new bar chairs On Behalf of the entire staff of Lakeside and the Board of Directors, we would like to thank you in advance for your generosity.
