JULY 16 - JULY 23, 2015 WEEK 29 ORGANIC MARKET NEWS ORGANIC TOMATO SUMMER UPDATE Organic Cherry and Grape Tomatoes are now in season from Lady Moon s Pennsylvania farm. Organic Mixed Cherry (Rainbow) Tomatoes are also now in seasons from PA. Organic Round Tomatoes are in good supply out of Mexico. Lady Moon Farms should start their 2-layer Organic Vine Ripe Tomatoes from PA by the last week of July. Organic Heirlooms are abundant out of California and they have just begun to pick up here in Pennsylvania at Lady Moon Farms. Organic Roma Tomatoes are available out of Mexico at this time. Pennsylvania Organic Roma Tomatoes will start by 7/22. Organic Cluster Tomatoes out of Canada, Mexico, and the USA are in good supply. Quality has been very nice and prices are promotable for the rest of July! Organic Hothouse Tomatoes continue to be available out of Toigo Farms in Pennsylvania. Organic Roma Tomatoes on the Vine in retail clamshells are back in stock out of Mexico. OG CUCUMBERS OG CHERRIES & APRICOTS OG STONE FRUIT Organic Cucumbers began out of Lady Moon Farms in Chambersburg, PA this week. Supplies are limited at this time. California shippers are reporting adequate supplies of Organic Cucumbers, but some shippers have some yellowing bellies. Organic Lemon Cucumbers out of California are in limited supplies. The Netherlands and Spain are reporting good supplies or Organic Hothouse Cucumbers this week. Washington Organic Dark Sweet Cherries continue despite the high heat. The quality on some of this higher elevation fruit is better than it was around 4th of July. Organic Rainier Cherries are done for the season. Washington Organic Apricots are in fi rm supply as the season ends up earlier than last year. Bring some in while you still can. California Organic Yellow Peaches are back in excellent supply with promotional opportunities available. Washington has also begun. We will transition by early August into the WA State fruit, which is expected to be very nice this season. California Organic White Peaches and White Nectarines are limited. Organic Yellow Nectarines are in tighter supply, but the Washington crop is coming, which will keep prices stable. Organic Red and Black Plums are limited with small gaps between varieties. Organic Dapple Dandy and Flavor Gem Pluots are available this week.

JULY 16 - JULY 23, 2015 WEEK 29 FOUR SEASONS PRODUCE, INC. OG ROMAINE HEARTS Organic Romaine Hearts are in abundant supply out of California. Quality has been good over the past few weeks. Some shippers are getting more for their product than others. OG CANTALOUPE California Organic Cantaloupe supply is extremely limited. Supplies are expected to be sporadic at best for the remainder of the season. OG WATERMELONS Organic Sugarbaby Watermelons (seeded) and Seedless Watermelons (bins and boxes) are available this week from Lady Moon Farms in GA. Organic Mini Seedless Watermelons from CA are available again........................................ OG GREEN PEPPERS Organic Green Peppers are in better supply this week out of California, but that has not been refl ected in the prices yet. New Jersey growers have limited supplies of Organic Green Peppers, mostly large and x-large. Lady Moon Farms will start this week on Organic Green Peppers out of their Pennsylvania location. OG RED PEPPERS Organic Red Peppers are in limited supplies out of the Netherlands (Holland). Limited supplies are also available out of Mexico, but the volume should increase towards the end of the week. Some supplies are available out of California as well. OG GREEN BEANS Organic Green Beans are in good supply out of California from multiple growers. Quality has been very nice. While we have a limited supply of Organic Green Beans out of Pennsylvania right now, we should see a dramatic increase in PA availability in the coming weeks. Packaged Organic Green Beans out of Florida.......................... will be out for a week or so.............. OG HASS AVOCADOS The Organic Hass Avocado market on the East Coast has been very hot as of late. Peruvian fruit has been sizing much smaller towards 60, 70, and even 84 ct during the beginning of the season, putting a very high demand on any available 48 ct from Mexico and California. Peru is projected to get fruit that is sizing up larger with the next couple of weeks. OG PINEAPPLES Organic Pineapples will be in tight supply for the remainder of the summer, due to an extremely rainy season over the course of the past year. This rain has affected plant vigor and made disease management more diffi cult, which has made caused signifi cantly lower yields through early September. OG BROCCOLI Organic Broccoli is in tighter supplies out of California. Multiple shippers are reporting very light harvests. Growers in Quebec, Canada have seen increasing supplies of Organic Broccoli and Broccoli Crowns this week, and their price is lower compared to California. Quality on both CA and Canadian product has been very good. Expect prices to inch up more next week as California shippers continue to struggle to fi ll orders.

JULY 16 - JULY 23, 2015 WEEK 29 FOUR SEASONS PRODUCE, INC. OG APPLES New crop Organic Gala Apples out of California are expected to begin by the end of July. Expect high pricing. Washington is also expected to begin early around the second week of August. Chilean and Argentinean Organic Pink Apple supply is excellent. Prices are falling. Organic Braeburn Apples continue from Argentina, Chile and New Zealand in excellent supply with falling prices. Organic Fuji, Gala, and Granny Smith Apples out of Argentina, Chile, and New Zealand are extremely limited with very strong and rising markets, imports are expected to stay extremely limited for the season. Washington Organic Red Delicious Apples are done for the season and we will transition into imported fruit with higher prices this week. OG BERRIES Organic Strawberries from Driscoll s should remain in steady supply with reasonable pricing the rest of July, but are expected to become limited in August. California Organic Blackberries are in steady supply and look to be promotable for late July. A small supply of New Jersey Organic Blackberries are now available. New Jersey Organic Blueberries are in very limited supply as some shippers have fi nished up for the season. Due to a lack of harvesting labor, growers are choosing to pick their rest of their crop with machines and sell it to processing. Pacifi c Northwest Organic Blueberries are very limited with prices on the rise. California Organic Raspberry supply is tighter this week with prices up slightly. OG PEARS New crop California Organic Bartlett Pears are expected to arrive this coming week. Washington is right behind them and are expected to start the first week of August. Argentinean Organic Abate, Anjou, Bartlett (Autumn/Winter), Bosc, Forelle, and Packham Pears are starting to wind down, but promotional opportunities do exist on the remaining fruit........................................ OG SALADS Organic Baby Spinach supply has rebounded pretty well following another bout with mildew out west the past 2 weeks. Bulk supplies are gradually getting back to full supply. OG MANGOS Organic Kent and Keitt Mango varieties are in good supply out of Mexico through next week. Organic Ataulfo Mangos are back in stock from Mexico and are currently shipping from a region that does not require hot water treatment. These are sure to ripen to perfection! OG GRAPES California Organic Black, Red, and Green Grapes are in excellent supply. Prices are steady. California Organic Champagne Grapes have begun with high prices and limited fruit. Mexican Organic Red and Green Grapes are done for the season. IN OTHER NEWS... - Organic Asparagus is finishing up out of California. Product this season was outstanding. - Organic Young Thai Coconuts will continue to be out of stock through the month of July. The first container of Organic Young Thai Coconuts will be hitting the first week of August. In the meantime, conventional Young Thai Coconuts are in ample supply. Prices have been higher due to the increased demand. - California Organic Brown Turkey Fig late crop has begun in a limited way with high prices. -California Organic Valencia Orange supply is firm and steady this week. Seasonal quality should be expected. - Peruvian Organic Satsuma Mandarins have arrived in limited supply. - Organic Lime prices continue to be very aggressive with excellent supplies. - ALERT! California Organic Grapefruit has become very limited with prices on the rise. Quality and shelf life are poor. - ALERT! Organic Lemon prices continue to rise and supplies remain very tight. We expect this trend to continue right into the summer and don t expect an improvement until the fall. Some of this is due to water rationing. We expect to see gaps which will grow bigger in the summer.

JULY 16 - JULY 23, 2015 WEEK 29 CONVENTIONAL MARKET NEWS MELON UPDATES WATERMELONS: Georgia and South Carolina will fi nish up on Watermelons this week. North Carolina, Maryland, and Delaware are going to have limited supplies as they are just getting started. Some quality concerns caused by rain are being reported out of a vast majority of melon growing regions. We have rejected quite a few loads this week for poor quality. Disease potential is very high. We have looked at sourcing fruit from some areas we don t normally use due to higher freight. This includes Indiana, Missouri, and Arkansas. They have similar quality challenges and have seen higher demand due to the limited availability in the East. Mini Seedless Watermelons are available, but supplies are lighter than anticipated since several major growers are gapping in late July. BIN CANTALOUPE: Bin Athena-style Cantaloupe supplies out of Delaware and Maryland have been extremely limited. Fields are not producing as quickly as expected. Quality will also be a concern due to the wet weather over the past few weeks. Local Lancaster County, PA Athena Cantaloupes start this week in a small way and are expected to have their harvest peak during the last week of July and fi rst week of August. CANTALOUPES & HONEYDEW: Steady supplies of Cantaloupe and Honeydew are expected out of California on all sizes this week. The carton Cantaloupe market is expected to remain stronger due to limited bin availability in the East. CV BLUEBERRIES New Jersey Blueberry volume is declining. They will be fi nished within the next two weeks. Demand is starting to shift to the Pacifi c Northwest. They have experienced some warm weather which could cause some soft/overripe concerns. We will keep a close eye on inbound quality. Look for prices to move up this week and continue to move as supplies wind down on the East Coast. CV GRAPES California Grape production has fi nally ramped up this week after a heat wave slowed maturity on much of the fruit, especially the White Seedless Grapes. By this week s end, supplies on the biggest and best Pretty Lady White Seedless Grapes will be on the road. Supplies shipping from Fresno through Bakersfi eld will be ample. Prices will show some fl ex, with an eight dollar spread between a medium large box and the very best extra-large. The White Grape market will be a little higher than the Red Grapes by about two dollars. CV CHERRIES Many Cherry growers are fi nished, many more are winding down and in another week or so, only one or two growers will remain in the deal. Normally at a time of year when we see the market fi rm up at the end, prices have been depressed as demand has diminished, with many chains staying clear of any promotions because of the uncertainty of the markets (volume and quality). Prices right now are some of the lowest we have seen on good fruit this late in the season. Rainier Cherries are essentially done for the season.

JULY 16 - JULY 23, 2015 WEEK 29 FOUR SEASONS PRODUCE, INC. CV EASTERN PEACHES We are now shipping Peaches out of the three major regions, Georgia, South Carolina and New Jersey. With the added volume from New Jersey prices have dropped by two dollars this week. Quality from all three areas looks fantastic with plenty of the larger sizes available. White Peaches from New Jersey should start next week with Nectarines starting by August to go along with them, but in much smaller amounts. CV CA STONE FRUIT There is good volume on Peaches, Plums, Nectarines, and plenty of larger fruit of all three available. Due to the abundance of peaches on the East Coast, demand has been light and prices show some weakness. Quality is very nice. The demand on Nectarines and Plums is much better, but volumes are such prices have been coming off with many growers staying ahead of the inventory, trying to stay fresh. On the specialty side, there are nice Family Tree Farm White Peaches and Nectarines to go with the Yellow, and many different Pluots (Plumcot) that have exceptional fl avor. CV PEARS Green Bartlett and Starkrimson Red Pears are on their way from California! Add that to the mix of CA Anjou Pears from Washington and imported Pears (Packham, Winter Bartlet, and Bosc) that are still available on the Eastern Piers. Prices on the Import Pears have dropped with these growers aggressively pricing their fruit trying to clean up with the new crop Pears on the road. California Bosc Pears, along with other varieties, will start the first of August........................................ CV CAULIFLOWER There is abundant supply of Cauliflower. There will be steady to lower pricing on Cello Wrapped 12 ct California product and we will also have 9 ct Bikini Cauliflower from Canada on a steady basis this week. CV ICEBERG LETTUCE There is ample supply of California and Canadian Iceberg Lettuce. We will continue to have both options at lower pricing. This is a great week to promote. CV LEAF LETTUCE Quality and pricing of California and Canadian Romaine, Green Leaf, and Red Leaf Lettuce are steady with good volume. Romaine Hearts are plentiful from California, limited from Canada. We will most stick with.......................... California product this week with very nice quality.............. CV STRAWBERRIES Look for steady supplies of Strawberries this week. Some fruit is being sent to process to keep markets steady. CV PEPPERS 15 lb. and 25 lb. Red Peppers are more abundant with lower pricing this week from California. 11 lb. Red, Yellow, and Orange Peppers are promotable from Holland. 12/1 lb. Mini Mixed Sweet Peppers are steady from California. CV SWEET CORN Pennsylvania Sweet Corn is kicking into gear. We will have 48 ct and/or 60 ct this week, along with 600 ct bins. Pricing is steady. We are now into some of the best tasting Sweet Corn of the year!

JULY 16 - JULY 23, 2015 WEEK 29 FOUR SEASONS PRODUCE, INC. CV EGGPLANT Eggplant is limited, but the quality is nice and fresh, from Flaim Farms in New Jersey. We have all the Flaim Farms Eggplant varieties as well: Sicilian, White, Graffiti, and Italian. CV CABBAGE Cabbage is plentiful from several locations (NY, NJ, PA, and Canada). We will continue to have PA and NJ product and have access to the other regions if needed........................... IN OTHER NEWS:................. CV ASPARAGUS Asparagus prices will be up slightly this week as Peru supplies can t keep up with the demand. Mexican supplies continue to be light due to their recent weather. CV GREEN BEANS There is nice steady supply of Pennsylvania Green Beans. Pricing will be lower this week. CV BROCCOLI Broccoli Crowns are more limited but still around. There is an up-tick in pricing with nice quality from California. CV CUCUMBERS Local Super Select Cucumbers are limited with steady pricing. Cello Wrapped Cucumbers remain limited with higher, but still reasonable, pricing........................... CV TOMATOES We will have nice steady supply of New Jersey 25 lb. XLG and Jumbo Vine Ripe Tomatoes. Two-layer Tomatoes are limited, but will improve when our local PA growers begin packing at the end of July. We will have nice supplies of Pennsylvania Heirloom Tomatoes. Local Grape and Cherry Tomatoes are steady out of Virginia, New Jersey, and Lancaster County, PA. Beef Tomatoes remain limited from New York and Canada. Cluster Tomatoes are steady from Texas and New York, but limited from Canada. Roma Tomatoes remain limited, but are expected to be promotable for August. CV CELERY There are good steady supplies of Celery. We will have Canadian as an option this week on 30 ct sleeved, which is a nice product as a less expensive alternative to the California product. CV BRUSSELS SPROUTS Brussels Sprouts are in good supply from California and remain a great item to promote. Quality is outstanding right now. CV SQUASH Green and Yellow Squash are limited with steady pricing.................. For more info on what s in season, check out producegeek.com!

SUNGOLD KIWIFRUIT Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit What is SunGold Kiwifruit? Unlike Green Kiwifruit, new SunGold Kiwifruit have a smooth skin that is almost more a tender-shell than skin and a deep golden bronze flesh that is less acidic than typical Kiwifruit. I was impressed by my first SunGold sticky sweet, juicy and refreshing, tropical yet not intense. When is SunGold Kiwfruit ripe? SunGold Kiwifruit are picked hard but at peak maturity and ripen off the vine, slowly. An unripe SunGold Kiwifruit is hard and not very juicy, while a ripe SunGold Kiwifruit will make come back for seconds with its sweet and mellow flavor and juicy flesh! A SunGold Kiwifruit is ready to eat when it gives to a gentle squeeze in the palm of your hand. The softer the fruit, the sweeter and juicier they ll taste. Store firm SunGold Kiwifruit at room temperature until they re ripe, or place them in a paper bag to speed up the process by trapping the natural ethylene emitted by the fruit. Ripe SunGold Kiwifruit can be held at that stage for about week in the fridge if you re not ready to eat them. How do you eat a SunGold Kiwifruit? The easiest way to enjoy a ripe SunGold Kiwifruit simply slice it in half and scoop out the flesh with a spoon. What else can you do with SunGold Kiwifruit? SunGold Kiwifruit are fantastic for snacking but here are some of the other ways I enjoyed them while on my trip to New Zealand: smoothies, dried SunGold Kiwifruit, in Muesli, in a sauce over beef, in salads, served warm over grilled salmon, baked into muffins and as part of a salsa. Check out this awesome collection of Kiwifruit Recipes from the Zespri. WHO IS ZESPRI KIWIFRUIT? ZESPRI Brand Organic Kiwifruit are from a Coop of nearly 3,000 growers in New Zealand that wants to build awareness of their brand and the Organic Kiwifruit overall. In its passage from seed to shelf, ZESPRI is rooted in quality and fostered by passionate people every step of the way.
