Gruyère AOP Scholarship for ACS Certified Cheese Professionals Overview Le Gruyère AOP is happy to be able to offer this exciting opportunity! Le Gruyère AOP is offering a new scholarship opportunity for American Cheese Society s Certified Cheese Professionals (ACS CCPs ). Le Gruyère is a PDO (European Union Protected Designation of Origin) cheese that has been made in Switzerland for over nine hundred years. There will be two winners of this scholarship, and each will have the opportunity to travel to the Gruyère region in the spring 2018 (tentatively scheduled for the week from May 28 to June 2nd) to meet Gruyère AOP producers and learn about the incredible cultural history of this wonderful heritage. This opportunity is open to current ACS CCPs. Applicants must complete the attached application and include a description of themselves and the work they do, particularly how it relates to Le Gruyère AOP, along with photos of their best Gruyère AOP display, promotion or recipe (such as a show case in your shop, a special event, a special dish, etc.). 2017 Scholarship Judges Include: Thalassa Skinner Owner of Culture Magazine, the Word on Cheese Alex Hermann Director of Swiss Tourism North America, based in New York. Short Interview with Our 2017 Winners : Izzy The CheeseQueen : The Gruyere AOP scholarship trip to Switzerland was the trip of a lifetime! It's amazing getting to see the differences in village production vs alpage production- you feel so much more connected to the cheese, the cheesemakers and Switzerland! Seeing the amount of love, passion and dedication that goes into the production of Gruyere AOP is truly inspiring. Laure organized an amazing trip, and we managed to see makers and affineurs of cheeses that we were specifically each working with, which was absolutely AMAZING. I would go back to Gruyeres and Switzerland in a heartbeat! Wendy - Robiolagirl : I won an amazing scholarship from Le Gruyere AOP and along with it a fantastic adventure in Switzerland and guided tour of Gruyeres and it's traditionally made cheese. The experience was beyond words and it's impressions have enriched me and given me greater understanding and appreciation of Le Gruyere AOP production and it's history. A BEAUTIFUL Country - FRIENDLY People - Great Food & MAGNIFICENT CHEESE to eat. A Certified Cheese Professional's DREAM!!! *********************************** ******************************* Rules Rules: Eligible applicants must have already passed the ACS Certified Cheese Professional Exam as administered by the American Cheese Society. Certification must be current, meaning that if the applicant passed the exam more than 3 years ago, s/he must have recertified with the American Cheese Society in order to be eligible. Eligible applicants must be 21 years of age or older at time of entry and must live and work in the United States or Canada. The Entry Form (see attached) must be emailed to acs-contest@gruyere.com by 11:59 PM EST on January 30, 2018. The Required Information must be typed directly into the Entry Form or into a separate Word document and sent as an email attachment. For the pictures, everything must also go through email. All writings must be original content created by the applicant. Applications will be judged anonymously. Winners will receive a trip to the Gruyère region of Switzerland in the spring of 2018 (dates probably week from May 28 to June 2nd), including round trip flights between a U.S. or Canadian airport and the Gruyère region, local transportation in the region, hotel stays and meals during the visit (incidental expenses are not included). The winners will accompany a representative from Le Gruyère AOP and a small group of journalists. Winners will participate in a cheese exchange during his/her travel in Switzerland. The winners will have to sign a publicity /liability release within 14 days of notification; otherwise an alternate winner will be selected. The winner will be notified by email. Past winners of the Gruyère Scholarship for ACS CCPs cannot apply
